This signposted 350 mile road trip is widely regarded as one of the definitive northwest Washington State road trips. Start in verdant Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater and, via charming Port Townsend, the ancient Hoh Rainforest and the sands of Ocean Shores to end the journey at the 28 mile Long Beach Peninsula.
Begin in the college town of Bellingham on this signposted 58 mile tour along Mount Baker Highway, State Route 542. There's the prospect of eagle-watching along the Nooksack River. At Picture Lake, snow-topped Mount Shuksan is reflected in water. Journey's end is Artist Point, just south of the Canadian border.
An epic journey along State Route 20 through the mountains of the Cascades range, known as the American Alps. There are stunning views from roads so high they're closed in the winter months. The journey begins in historic Sedro-Woolley and ends in arty Twisp.
Following a trading route used by Native Americans, this Byway is signposted on State Route 20. It begins near the delightful town of Republic and takes in Washington State's highest mountain pass, Sherman Pass, before ending at the 40 foot high Crystal Falls.
On State Route 504, this is a 52 mile journey that takes travelers to the destruction called by Mount St Helens which erupted in 1980. There's a superb visitor center.
