Parking is limited on the American University campus and most students take advantage of the free transit pass, giving access to city bus and metro services. The closest metro station is Tenleytown, on the red line of the Washington metro. Shuttle buses run from the metro into the University campus. The 30, 31 and 33 bus lines from the city center also pass the campus.
There's always something new to see at the American University Museum, which hosts rotating exhibitions of contemporary art. Entry is free. Check the website for details of current exhibitions and events, and for information about guided tours led by students at the University.
The Dumbarton Oaks estate was gifted to Harvard University in 1940 and is now open to the public. Inside the historic house, visitors can marvel at the stunning collection of art. Outside, the landscaped gardens are the perfect retreat from city life. The garden is also an art gallery, with sculpture exhibitions regularly held among the trees. Dumbarton Oaks is open year round, with shorter hours in winter.
