Occupying the square in front of the Rathaus, Vienna's neo-Gothic city hall, this is the biggest and oldest Christmas market in Vienna. There are more than 150 traditional wooden stalls where you can indulge in strudel, baked potatoes and candied nuts. Artisans display painstakingly crafted Christmas decorations.
A jaw-dropping setting is just one of the attractions of Schönbrunn Christmas Market, in the forecourt of the Hapsburg summer palace, lit up in gold for the season. More than 80 stalls form a semi-circle around the square, with high quality wares from glass blowers, wood carvers and more. A huge choice of food, too.
Vienna's most traditional Christmas market occupies the square in front of the ancient St Stephen's Cathedral. There's been a market here since medieval times. About 40 stalls sell jewelery, hand-painted decorations, seasonal candles and the like.
