Most Scenic Road Trips in Vermont

Whether you're looking to blitz across the state and enjoy the beautiful vistas on a pristine highway, or backroad it and find a more laid-back pace to enjoy the New England countryside, its friendly people and its fun activities, there is a road trip in Vermont to suit everyone's taste.

  • 1. Route 7

A good choice if you want to get an overview of the whole of Vermont, this one travels pretty much from one end of the state to the other. Scenic takes on a whole new meaning with this one as you'll encounter a wide variety of roadside art including Queen Connie, who balances a real-life VW Beetle on one arm. Seriously.

  • 2. Green Mountain Byway

A more traditional conception of the scenic route here, with mountains, forests and waterfalls aplenty. Stop-offs are recommended if you're in to anything outdoorsy, including hiking and skiing. You'll also find the highest peak in the state on this route and Mount Mansfield provides a view that's worth the epic hike.

  • 3. Route 100 Byway

If you're an avid follower of snow sports, this route is the one for you. Mount Snow offers 87 different trails and slopes for all levels, as well as golfing and summer camps for kids. Nearby, Moss Glens is a stunning 10-meter waterfall that calls out for a mid-road-trip selfie.

  • 4. Route 9

If your visiting in the fall, Route 9 is a great choice, as the road is adorned with a multitude of trees that showcase the fall foliage and the myriad of colors it creates.
