The Best Hiking Trails in Sand Hollow State Park

While hiking is not one of the main activities in Sand Hollow State Park, there are a few short trails for those wanting to stretch their legs. The area of St. George around Sand Hollow does have a number of long hikes that each offer distinctive views of Utah. Stay a few days at one of the Sand Hollow State Park hotels and explore the surrounding area.

  • 1. Canyon Trail

    A 0.75-mile loop hike to a viewpoint on a canyon edge, this hike is fairly flat from the carpark, and the viewpoint offers lovely views of Sand Hollow State Park. The trail is wheelchair accessible.

  • 2. Sand Hollow Loop

    Take a look at the campground before heading out on this 0.5-mile loop that takes you to the edge of the dunes. This is a perfect trail to follow just before sunset to watch the dunes glow bright red with the setting sun.

  • 3. Reservoir Loop

    One of the longest trails in the park at 1.75 miles, this hike takes you along the edge of the park's popular reservoir. Watch the activity out on the water from one of the many benches along the trail.

    The park has 15,000 acres of sculpted sand dunes that will make any rider happy, with plenty of low dunes for novice riders to try. Bring your own off-road vehicle or hire one from one of the outdoor companies in nearby St.George.

    Let your kids try their hand at fishing at Sand Hollow Reservoir. Catch bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill in the reservoir.

    Hire a sailboat, canoe or small power boat and spend the day exploring the 1,322 acres of water. This is a great place to teach your children about boating as the conditions on the water are generally very safe.

  • 4. Horse riding
