The park is also home to alligators, so be sure to check out alligator safety tips on the park's website or at the headquarters. Guided bird watching tours are also held on certain days.

You do not need a licence to fish from shore within the park, and the reservoir is home to largemouth bass and catfish, among other species. There are boat ramps in both units of Choke Canyon State Park, so if you've come equipped, you can easily get out on the water to start angling. In addition, Calliham has a fish cleaning shelter as well as a rock jetty.
