Where to find the best food in Shreveport?
Good Ol Po' Boys: Shreveport's Rich Cuisine
If it’s good southern food you’re after then a house rental in Shreveport won't let you down. The city offers everything from indisputable classics in some of the South’s oldest restaurants to modern, experimental fusions and great beer.
For a taste of the old south, head to Herby K’s. Herby K’s is Shreveport’s second oldest restaurant, dating back to 1936. It’s really an old-fashioned seafood shack - and everything you’d want it to be. Their best-known dish is the Shrimp Buster, which they’ve been serving since 1945. It’s butterflied shrimp fried up and served with bread, fries, and coleslaw, as well as their secret recipe Shrimp Buster sauce. If you want to go one step further back, then check out Orlandeaux’s Café. The restaurant used to be known as Brother’s Seafood, which was the oldest African-American owned restaurant in the whole of the country. Opened in 1921, Orlandeaux’s offers classic Cajun food, with po’boys, fresh shrimp, and gumbo all served up hot.
For a great beer, head down to any one of Shreveport’s craft beer breweries. The Great Raft Brewing Company is one of the city’s favorites. There's a tasting room where you can hang out around the brewing equipment and sink a few beers. If you want to find out more, then they have tours every Saturday. Other options in town include Flying Heart Brewing and the Red River Brewing Company.

Gorgeous Heat and Cooling Rain: Shreveport's Climate
Shreveport’s climate is one of its very best features, making it a spectacular choice for a vacation rental. The sun shines brightly and temperatures are comfortable and pleasant year-round.
Spring and fall are both particularly lovely times of the year for booking a Shreveport house rental as temperatures are especially pleasant, with average highs of around 70 degrees. Meanwhile, summer is gorgeously hot with temperatures often reaching the high 90s.
Unlike many southern cities, however, Shreveport never gets uncomfortable because of its abundant rain. Anytime the temperatures feel like they might be getting too high, you can count on a cool, soothing rain to fall and refresh you.

A Rich Southern History and Abundant Nature
If you do choose a Shreveport house rental, then there is plenty to do in terms of museums and culture. As we mentioned earlier, the city is really pretty old and there is plenty of history to dig into.
A good first stop is the Davis Homeplace, a house painstakingly restored to its original form and stacked full of items that belonged to the city’s famous Davis family. It gives you a real look at how people in Louisiana used to live back in the day, and you can take a tour of the home if you book ahead, with your guide dressed in period costume. For more history, the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum is well worth a visit. Housed in a stunning Art Deco-era building that features frescoes and other beautiful artworks, the exhibitions depict Louisiana’s rich economic history, telling the story of how the state came to be in its modern form.
If you want to get out into nature during your stay in a Shreveport home rental, then there are plenty of options there, too. Our favorite escape is the Asian Gardens. A collection of 15 stunningly landscaped gardens that showcase a range of Asian horticulture and plants, the Gardens host festivals year around.
