Description

Located in the Valle Crucis area of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, this three bedroom, three bath log home is the perfect location for a family vacation.

Location: Located in the heart of the NC Blue Ridge Mountains, Uncle John's Cabin is conveniently located only 4 miles from downtown Boone and ASU, 6 miles from Tweetsie Railroad, 9 miles from Blowing Rock, and only 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Amenities: Uncle John's Cabin is the perfect place for kids to have fun and for adults to relax. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare and enjoy family meals. Kids can enjoy the bottom level of the house, which includes a Smart TV for streaming, as well as Spectrum cable channels! This area also has a pool table, a ping-pong table, air hockey, an indoor basketball hoop, a dart board, a card table with board games for all ages, and a full bathroom.

Adults will love the open-air outdoor Jacuzzi hot tub, the herb garden on the deck, and the iJoy Robotic Massage Chair to ease away stress, tension and fatigue with only a push of a few buttons. A gas grill is on the large two-sided deck. Hardwood floors through the entire cabin.

Room descriptions: The large master bedroom on the third floor has a king bed, a 42-inch HDTV with Spectrum cable channels and Roku for streaming, an iJoy Robotic Massage Chair, and a private master bath. The second bedroom on the main level has a king bed and a 42-inch HDTV with Roku for streaming. The third bedroom also on the main level has a queen bed. The loft has twin bunk beds, a computer with a printer, a 42-inch HDTV, and a DVD player (no cable access on this TV). The living room has leather furnishings, a 50-inch HDTV with Spectrum cable channels, and a fireplace. The unfinished game area downstairs has a pool table, a ping-pong table, air hockey, a dart board, a foosball table, a card table with tons of board games for all ages, a single shot Electronic Basketball Hoop game, a Smart HDTV for streaming (and Spectrum cable channels), and a full bathroom. There is a short hiking trail from the hot tub area to the top of the hill, about a 20 minute round trip hike.

Neighborhood amenities: A public par 3 golf course (Willow Creek Golf Course) as well as a family picnic area, which includes picnic tables, swing set and slide. Just minutes away from all the shopping, dining, attractions, and adventures that the High Country has to offer.

History: People everywhere called him "Big John" or Mr. Rock, appropriate names for the owner's 6-foot tall, 265-pound uncle. Uncle John never went to college, well, yes, he did - for one semester, before being drafted by the Detroit Tigers to play professional baseball, yet he was probably one of the smartest businessmen of his generation. Everything he touched seemed to turn to gold. He was an organizer, a leader, a giver - and the most generous person many ever knew. Some of his projects include the building of a playground for children in his hometown and the installation of a huge glockenspiel town clock. Most of all, his generosity throughout the community of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania was known only by him and those he helped. Uncle John passed away in 2009, but the family is still hearing stories of how he helped people and organizations. His dream was to build a log cabin, which he did in 2006. The cabin is now Timberstone Resort and includes a huge lodge, several smaller cabins, a swimming pool, fishing pond and pavilion for weddings and parties. Phase 2 of this recreational area was in the process of being built when he suddenly had a stroke in early 2009. He passed away 4 months later.

Although Uncle John was not here to oversee the building of this log cabin, completed in July 2010, somehow we feel that he would have loved it here. The purpose of this special cabin is to be in memory of Uncle John. If you decide to stay at Uncle John's Cabin, we hope you will feel the love of Uncle John while you are here.

"If you want to feel like you are in the mountain woods this is your place. The cabin was filled with lots of things to occupy your time in you don't want to go anywhere. The cabin is almost a mile up hill so in bad weather it could be a rough drive (winter snow/ice). While here we went gem mining, visited ASU, and swam at a waterfall."

"Uncle John's mountain cabin was a pleasure to stay at. We have been staying at cabins in the Boone area for over 30 years And we have certain criteria when we're looking for a cabin. We like to cook in for breakfast and dinner the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. Everything was clean which was greatly appreciate it. The gas fireplace it was so easy to just turn the switch And have a fire. Checking in and access to the cabin entrance was great. The game room was an added bonus and we used it every evening and then after some friendly competition we would hit the Jacuzzi we also appreciated The privacy the cabin provided another thing that is tops on our list. Thank you for letting us enjoy you're beautiful cabin it was everything you said it would be an more."

"Excellent service provided by a professional and courteous staff. The house was clean and well stocked. The kitchen utensils and televisions were relatively new as were the other appliances. The wireless internet was strong throughout the property. All in all, our experience was very nice although the weather failed to cooperate. Come on Blue Ridge. You couldn't get the weather to cooperate? Seriously though, the recreational equipment in the downstairs "game room" kept my grandkids (and their highly competitive dad) happy even with the poor weather conditions. A great experience!"

"Everything stole our hearts from the moment we walked in. All the way down to the sweet messages from our housekeeper Nicole, and the sweet little Easter Basket with candy—my kids were thrilled. The view from the porch is gorgeous. The house is very well kept, and the kitchen has far more than expected. We did not leave a single time all weekend but to go to the playground at the entrance which is so much fun. My favorite spot was by far the game room. My family, and I could've stayed down there in that room ALL DAY! I just LOVED the spacious basement. The walking trails are NOT for the faint hearted by no means, but fun! Oh & to the host—thank you for your speedy, and caring replies! & the extra towels for the hottub"

"Absolutely loved our time at Uncle John's Cabin. Kids loved the air hockey, ping pong & pool tables, darts, & bb hoop (indoor). Adults loved the massage chair (master bedroom) & hot tub (on deck). Nestled up in the mountains seems very secluded, but is quite near Tweetsie, Mystery Hill, Mast General Store, etc. Grocery store only 5-10 minutes away. Kitchen well stocked for cooking/baking. Very clean. Agree with other reviewer...pictures don't do it justice...it is lovely. A must stay if you're a family with kids."

"We booked a BEAUTIFUL cabin near Boone, NC this past June and absolutely loved it! I hesitate to mention the specific cabin we rented for fear that all you Yelpers out there will read this review and go and book this hidden gem-and then WE wont be able to return! Ha! But seriously, if you have a large family, the rental named Uncle Johns Cabin is a winner. With three floors, there is PLENTY of room for everyone. There are three bedrooms in addition to a loft that has a bunk bed. Also, every room has a large plasma flat screen TV along with large flat screen TVs in the family room/den and the game room/basement. Now, about the game room.....this was by far the BEST place for our three boys to hang out. There is a pool table, an air hockey table and a ping pong table. There is also an electronic basketball-shooting game. So cool.... SO MUCH TO DO! The wrap-around deck had us feeling like we were living in a tree house. So beautiful. We LOVED having our morning coffee out on the deck. The cabin is situated on the side of a mountain, but the views are (primarily) accessed from the hiking trail behind the cabin. The trail was a bit overgrown, but our boys made quick work of clearing it so we could access it easier without the thorn bushes. The cabin is just about 10 minutes from Boone, NC. So much to do in Boone.... we did a canopy zip line tour on one of our vacation days and loved that. And incidentally we accidentally left our zip drive that had over 120 photos from our zip line canopy tour in the cabins PC computer. Once we realized we had left it behind, we contacted Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals and they were able to get the zip drive from the cabin and mailed it back to us (along with a shirt we left behind-and they laundered the shirt before shipping it!) And I think it is worth mentioning that there is a golf course at the base of the mountain (three minute drive from cabin) if you enjoy golf. So to wrap this belated review up, the cabin and everyone at Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals were great. We hope to return sometime soon so we can make more memories!"

"My family and I traveled from S. Carolina, Georgia and New York and held our first family reunion here the weekend of 9/5-9/8 and it was awesome! We thoroughly enjoyed all the cabins that were rented and their amenities. They were in close proximity so it was easy for everyone to visit each other. We definitely had a great time bonding, laughing, and making everlasting memories. One of the cabins had a leak in the bathroom sink but maintenance was contacted and fixed it without hesitation. "We wanted a place to stay in the mountains that looked like a cabin on the outside, but contained the amenities of a more modern home. Uncle Toms Cabin exceeded our expections! The unfinished basement has lots games including ping pong, pool, basketball (carnival style), air hockey, and lots of board games. There are several large screen Tvs throughout the house. We enjoyed the cabin so much that we only left the cabin to go snow tubing at Sugar Mountain which was about 15-20 minutes away, and to see downtown Boone. If you are looking for a place which is nicely appointed, has a open floorplan, and will keep you entertained while not exploring Boone or the surrounding areas, then this is a great place to go!"
