Welcome to Casa Rio!

Casa Rio is a beautiful log cabin on the Watauga River in Valle Crucis with 3 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. You will find custom log beams, columns, and handrails throughout, with hand-crafted branch balustrades. All of the beds have hand-hewn log frames. If "mountain elegance" is what you are seeking, and on the river as well, Casa Rio delivers!

Located only a mile from the historic Mast General Store and Valle Crucis Riverfront Park, Casa Rio is also convenient and central to all the High Country offers. Boone is only 5 miles away, Banner Elk is about 9 miles away, and Blowing Rock is only 11 miles away. Snow skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, and ice skating are nearby, with Sugar Mountain Ski Resort and Appalachian Ski Mountain about 12 miles and Beech Mountain Ski Resort only 14 miles away. Hawksnest Snow Tubing and Zip Lines is only about 11 miles from the cabin. Grandfather Mountain is less than 15 miles away, and Tweetsie Railroad is only 10 miles from Casa Rio.

The main level of Casa Rio features an open floorplan with a foyer entry boasting high vaulted ceilings and hardwood floors. Immediately on your right are a laundry room and full bathroom. Further inside, you find a central, wood-burning fireplace with dramatic floor-to-ceiling stonework, open on both sides so guests can enjoy it from the dining area and the great room. A banquet-style dining table seats up to 8 guests. Entertaining is easy with the additional counter-height 4-seat table and three bar stools at the center kitchen island. The kitchen has gorgeous granite counters, high-end stainless appliances and is centered around a gas cooktop with custom stone accents above. The adjacent great room has two leather sofas, positioned conversationally, offering a view of the fireplace and the big screen HD Smart TV.

The king master suite with an HDTV, and a sliding glass door leading to a rear patio, is on the main level. You can hear and see the Watauga River. There is a generous ensuite master bathroom with slate tile floors, his and hers vanity, a large walk-in closet, an open stone shower, and a circular jetted soaking tub in the center of the bathroom.

Upstairs offers flanking bedrooms, one with a king bed and an HDTV, the other with two twin beds and two twin trundles (sleeps four), and an HDTV. A full central bathroom with a tub and shower services both upstairs bedrooms. The open loft has a new slate pool table, an HDTV, and comfy leather furniture.

Off of the kitchen and great room is an open-air deck with a view of the big backyard and the Watauga River. It features a gas grill, an outdoor dining table, and chairs. Below the main level deck, at ground level, is a covered patio with a hot tub and lounge-style seating, just a step up from the backyard, which slopes gently down to the Watauga River and features a wood-burning fire pit.

"We had a great week at Casa Rio overall. Plenty of space for adults and kids, big hot tub, easy access to Boone and Blowing Rock. We especially liked access to the river...we could play in the water and fish every day."

"Casa Rio was simply stunning! We didn't want to leave. The home was perfect, the views were great, and all of the essentials such as towels and linens were provided. We did grab a few things for our weekend stay that the house did not have available such as detergent, a sponge to wipe the counters down with, and extra paper towels, garbage bags, firewood, and dishwasher tabs. Also note that if you plan on using the oven there are no pot holders. Aside from the little things we would highly recommend Casa Rio! We cannot wait to plan a future visit!"

"We rented this cabin in order to be close for our daughter's graduation from Appalachian state and it was great. I would definitely consider renting again in the future as long as there was no bad weather forecasted because the driveway is very steep. The cabin was beautifully decorated."

"We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Rio! The house is absolutely beautiful and in a great location. Boone is only a 15 minute drive and has anything you could need for your stay. We loved the indoor fireplace and the hot tub. We got snow during our stay and it we had lots of fun playing outside in front and back of property. The river and mountain views are magnificent. Definitely recommend this cabin for any time of year!"

"We decided to take a short vacation (3 day weekend) to the mountains and selected Casa Rio for our stay. The cabin was just what we needed. The description/pictures are pretty much spot on. Cabin was clean, offered plenty of space, a great back yard. The river was relaxing to watch. Utilized the fire place (no smoke issues at all-unlike other posts stated) as it was nice to sit by a real fire and read and rest. Plenty of sitting room. Master bedroom was great and master bath was beautifully laid out. The location was easy to find and close enough for some local touring if you needed to get out (we did not). Overall I would recommend staying here. A few suggestions for improvements (please note that these did not prohibit us from having a great time): 1) Kitchen serving pieces, cookware, and plates (most are chipped) could use an upgrade (I would suggest bringing your own cookware if you do a lot of cooking like we do as the items are lower end pieces as you would expect to find in a rental unit.) 2) Hot water kept running out on us (just two people taking showers) - a larger hot water heater would be a nice improvement - better yet, a tankless unit would be great for those wishing to use the jacuzzi tub in master bath. 3) While the rest of the house was warm at room temperature, the master bedroom was hot (not sure but this room might be the closest to the heat pump and the thermostat is closer to the foyer which is a tad drafty). 4) it is really cold going from the hot tub up two flights of stairs to get back inside - say this to make sure those staying in the winter back a cover up to get back inside. 5). Probably what was the most inconvenient item for us was the parking. The parking is very limited with no garage or cover and a very steep incline. Luckily we only had one vehicle. Not sure where a second vehicle would park without having to be on a very steep incline? Please know that we would consider this property for a return visit in the future."

"The Casa Rio is an absolutely wonderful cabin on a gorgeous property. We stayed here for two weeks in December and enjoyed every minute of it. The views from the cabin are spectacular. Other than a few minor decoration changes, the cabin is as nice as the pictures. It was very clean when we arrived. We loved the fire place. There were some complaints from others about smoke and setting off the fire alarm. We used it every day and didn't have any issues with either (as long as the glass doors on both sides were closed). The king bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. The master bath was just as beautiful as the pics. The kitchen was nice, but many of kitchen items need to be refreshed. We cooked most of our meals at the cabin and ate in the dining room next to a warm wood burning fireplace. The lighting in the entire cabin was dim. We actually purchased a cheap floor lamp for reading when it was dark in the early morning and at night. There is plenty of natural light during the day, even when it is cloudy. The house is drafty in the winter months, especially the front door. With a little bit of work, they could probably lower their energy bill significantly. We loved hiking around the property with our kids. In the warmer months, I'm sure our kids would have spent days playing in the river. You could hear the river from the property. You could also hear vehicles from a nearby road when outside, but it was not intrusive. The hot tub was perfect for some cold winter days. We thoroughly enjoyed all the nearby hiking, restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries and the Mast General Store. Google maps reviews were accurate for each. We will definitely be working with Carolina Cabin Rentals again. They have lower fees than VRBO or HomeAway and were just as helpful. We called several times throughout our stay and they answered promptly. Their user portal was convenient. Thanks for Carolina Cabin Rentals and the owners of Casa Rio for making our stay so refreshing. We needed it!"

"The interior of the home was very clean. A few minor details in that the parking is limited to 1 or 2 vehicles at best, and the fire pit on the deck did not operate. Even with these minor issues I would recommend this home as a rental."

"The cabin was beautiful! The creek below is beautiful the views are amazing! We loved the hot tub and kitchen! We had a good time for the most part. However, we were extremely disappointed in not even being able to take a shower in the master bath due to hot water inoperable. Carolina cabin rentals did make an effort to make up for the lack of hot water in the beautiful master bath which we GREATLY appreciate. Due to that alone we will be contacting Carolina cabin rentals for our next cabin rental seeing we travel to Boone, NC yearly! It is by far our favorite destination. Casia Rio is a beautiful cabin!"

"The cabin was as beautiful as the pictures! It was clean and everything was in working order. The location was awesome - close to tons of things to do. Loved having a fire pit and a river right behind it. My husband and the three 11 year-old girls had a great time without missing any electronics! Some small drawbacks: - If you wanted to feel like you were out in the wilderness - you could hear traffic on the road behind. - Cabin supplied NO staples - no coffee, no firewood, nothing..... - Fire place - even with the flue open, made cabin smokey and set up of the smoke alarm."
