Description

Your search for the ideal luxury home with incredible mountain views is over! Welcome to SKYTOP RETREAT, a spectacular home overlooking the Johns River Gorge and offering 50 mile layered mountain views from nearly every room!

If you want to see the best views around you'll need to go off pavement. This home is accessed by a very steep gravel road. 4WD or AWD vehicles are absolutely required year-round, and during winter months chains may also be necessary. All guests going to Skytop Retreat must drive respectfully and slowly through the neighborhood. There is a garage with room for 2 cars, and room for 2 more cars to park outside. It is a shared driveway and the neighborhood has one-lane gravel roads. Please see more details below.

As you enter the home, you'll move through the foyer into the dining room. This welcoming space features a table with seating for 10 people, so there's plenty of room for everyone to pull up a chair and break bread together. A few steps down from the dining room leads you into the great room with its soaring ceilings, stone gas log fireplace, TV, and glass double doors to the open deck. The kitchen is at the rear of the great room, and is a chef's dream with Viking brand stainless steel appliances, granite counters, huge island, custom cabinetry, warming drawer, and a variety of helpful small appliances including a food processor, blender, hand mixer, slow cooker, and a rice cooker. The pantry offers an built-in ice maker for your convenience, as well.

Skytop Retreat features several options for those who want to have some fun, kick back, and relax. The lower level has a den area with comfortable couches arranged around a big screen TV, BluRay player and an XBox360, as well as a shuffleboard table and a multi-game arcade cabinet stocked with all the classics from the golden age of games. Of course, don't miss the ever-changing awe inspiring mountain views from your seat on the deck! During the winter months you can hear the sounds of flowing water and see a small waterfall to the left of the house, and those nimble enough to navigate can enjoy seeing it up close on the cleared pathway to it. And there's simply no better way to relax than a nice long soak under the stars in the hot tub on the side deck.

There are four bedrooms as well as a private sleeping loft, giving Skytop Retreat a total of five sleeping areas. The main level offers a bedroom with a Queen bed, a fireplace, and an attached full bathroom with a shower. Upstairs you'll find the loft with a Queen bed, and down the hall is the luxurious master bedroom suite with a King bed and ensuite bathroom with champagne soaking tub and separate tiled shower. Downstairs on the lower level are two more bedroom suites. One offers a King bed and the second offers a Queen bed, and both bathrooms have a tub/shower in them. There's even a full-sized folding portable crib with mattress stored in an upstairs closet, along with a booster set, perfect for the littlest guest to use.

Skytop Retreat invites you and your loved ones to relax and renew your souls in this special slice of the mountains. No matter what you do here in the High Country, you'll love coming home to Skytop Retreat!

IMPORTANT NOTES:
- This home is accessed by a very steep gravel road. 4WD or AWD vehicles with good tires are absolutely required year-round, and during winter months chains will also be necessary during inclement weather.
- There is a garage with room for 2 cars, and room for 2 more cars to park outside. A max of 4 cars may be parked in and at the property. ABSOLUTELY NO MORE THAN 2 CARS MAY PARK OUTSIDE THE HOUSE AT ANY TIME. It is a shared driveway, so please do not block the neighbor's access. The road to the house is one-lane, and cars may not park anywhere along the road. Guests are expected to be respectful of area residents when driving and walking in the neighborhood.
- This home is pet friendly! We accept 2 mature well-trained dogs per stay. Pet rent is $25+tax per pet per night. Pets other than dogs are not permitted.
- Internet is Starlink; users typically experience download speeds between 25 and 220 Mbps, with a majority of users experiencing speeds over 100 Mbps. Upload speeds are typically between 5 and 20 Mbps. Latency ranges between 25 and 60 ms. These speeds make Starlink suitable for streaming, video calls, online gaming, and other typical household internet use.
-Depending on your carrier, your cell phone may or may not work in this location. Verizon is the best coverage here, and if your plan supports it, you can use your phone as a hotspot.
- All BRMR homes offer well stocked kitchens with all utensils needed to cook meals. There is also a "starter set" of paper products at the house: a roll of toilet paper per bath, several garbage bags, a small vial of dishwashing liquid, a few tablets of dishwasher detergent, some laundry pods, a roll of paper towels, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and some makeup remover cloths. There are enough of these items for one night, or maybe two. We do not provide hair dryers. Towels and linens will be provided.
- Check in is after 4pm and Checkout is by 10am
- Must electronically sign an additional Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions and any Neighborhood Rules sent by Host (property manager) or entry information cannot be sent.
- Must be at least 25 years old to reserve. This person is required to be the person signing the agreement and must be one of the persons staying in the property for the reserved dates.
- No smoking inside the home. No trace of smoking left outside the home.
- Do not leave food or trash outside as it could attract animals. All trash must be bagged and placed in the trash receptacle indicated in the Welcome Book inside the house or your digital guidebook.
- No parties or gatherings above the posted occupancy allowed at any time. Keep outside noise respectable.

"Skytop Retreat is a beautiful home with amazing views. And I would perhaps return. However, some caveats that future renters should know: As the listing says, bring a 4-wheel drive vehicle, with substantial well maintained tires, no low profile fancy wheels. Our door code did not work, really no big deal if the property management company would actually answer the phone - this one kind of put everyone in a sour mood since we were a two party separated arrival. Of note, the house, while overall fairly clean, could use a thorough dusting - many surfaces had dust and many dust bunnies were seen - as well as previous renter’s hair. Bring your own blankets, not every bedroom had one. Contrary to the description, the internet service was provided through Starlink - which was great. The fireplace in the main floor bedroom did not function. And lastly, at some point an unknown person entered the locked garage and removed the garbage from the cans. While we did appreciate the fact that garbage was removed, we ABSOLUTELY DID NOT appreciate having an unknown person - without our knowledge - enter what we thought was a secure space with our vehicles and personal belongings. That’s how bad things happen folks - a knock at the door or a call should be mandatory before anyone ever enters a property. Aside from that, future renters, enjoy your time at Skytop Retreat. It is overall pleasant and very nice."

"The Skytop lodge is truly a magical place. I stayed there with 5 other women as part of a retail trading women's retreat and cannot even begin to explain the transformation that occurred. When you walk into the home you are greeted with a view that will literally take your breath away. The pictures just simply do not serve it justice. The house is perfectly equipped to host a gathering or retreat or family reunion. And there was a bonus trail close to the property that leads you down to 2 small waterfalls. That was such a nice surprise. The drive down into the property is a bit bumpy - and I understand the need for all wheel drive. Getting down is no problem, but you certainly need that AWD to kick in on the way up. The best part of the stay was the magical sunrises in the morning. I am sure this is in the description of the property, and I must have overlooked it. But to experience the sunrise over the blue ridge mountains, with the trickle of the stream in the background, the occasional bird song while sipping your coffee is just one of wonder. There were minor hiccups - ice maker did not work and the downstairs fireplace was not working during our stay. But the management company let us know and had a bag of ice for us. And we spent most our time on the main floor anyway, and that fireplace was wonderful. And the place is perfectly appointed and very clean. Needless to say, I will be back."

"The property exceeded our expectations and the pictures do not do it justice. The views from every room were stunning. The house was exceptionally clean and stocked with anything you need. Four wheel drive is definitely a bonus since the road to the house is not paved. We will most certainly stay here again."

"Quite often the mountain homes with the best views come with the most challenging driving to arrive at them. This house was very nice, roomy, well appointed, clean, and had amazing views. The drive on 221 can mess with your head, BUT the road leading to the house is definitely a challenge. It was well worth it and had some of the best views we have experienced. We would like to return."

"The house was perfect..enjoyable to be in and use. The views were of course our favorite. I cooked for the gang of 9 for the week were there and the Kitchen was more enjoyable to work in than my own.. and have beautiful views the whole time I am cooking. Really relaxing and very clean. thank you for good service. Oh, the road was no problem for us at all, but it was dry and clear, but I had feared the road and all went well."

"We had an excellent time at this property. It was gorgeous, spacious, super clean, cozy, and incredibly well appointed. Since we were traveling with a 2 year old, we'd hoped to do a fair amount of cooking in the home and we were beyond thrilled to see how well appointed the kitchen was - truly everything we needed was there! The views are breathtaking and the house is so comfortable and inviting. It is a little far out and kind of tough to get to (4wd is definitely a plus, the roads in the neighborhood are STEEP) but 20 min outside of BR and Linville made getting out and doing things fairly easy. We'd absolutely stay here again!"

"The VIEW! You'll be hard pressed to find a house with a better view. We felt relaxed immediately! The hot tub even shares in the awesome views. Very well appointed house and super clean. Truly superb property. You won't be disappointed. Heed the 4WD warning. You'll need it for sure. The internet is very slow but this isn't the owners fault as there is only one provider in the area and they have data caps. If you rent towards the end of a month you will likely be significantly restricted. But the mountains are about getting away from it all so just plan accordingly. Excellent communication and super easy check in and out."

"A beautiful stay, gorgeous views, highly prepared for any situation. Everything they had to offer was luxurious, to the dishes and glasses, to the beds and bedding. The fireplaces were a wonderful touch and easy to use. The Wi-Fi was not forgiving however, so definitely expect to disconnect and spend lots of quality time with the people you are with. You can use your phones however the connection there's nothing to write home about. So close to so many hikes and the wonderful town of blowing rock! We would definitely recommend and would stay again. Please watch your step walking out to the upper balcony!"

"This property was absolutely beautiful! The pictures do not do it justice. The views from every room were incredible. The place was super clean and the kitchen had every kind of pot or pan or gadget you needed to cook pretty much anything. We would highly recommend this place if you have a large family. We were 5 couples and each couple had their own bedroom space and their own bathroom. The fireplaces were great and the heat worked very well! The house is also stocked with plenty of games even an arcade game. We had a great time in this house and we will definitely be back! Remember to make sure you have 4 wheel drive if you visit in winter. It was snowing quite a bit while we were there and we were glad we had the 4 wheel drive."

"We had a great stay at Skytop retreat over the holidays. The property was just as described with beautiful views and accommodations. It was such a nice bonus that they had decorated for the holidays. This is the best equipped kitchen I have ever had in a rental. Not only enough pans and dishes to make full meals, but everything was high quality in beautiful condition. The kids made great use of the hot tub and the game room. The gas log fireplaces were so easy to use and gave the whole home a cozy feel. Blue Ridge made the process very easy providing the details we needed in a timely fashion. The branded welcome gift on arrival was such a nice touch. We would look again to rent this property or another of theirs in the future."
