VrKCV - Hale Moana Kona, Professionally Managed by Kona Coast Vacations

Stunning Ocean Front Home – Hale Moana Kona

Perfect spot to enjoy the Ironman Finals! Watch from your lanai as the swimmers round the turn bouy, then later as the participants run past your front door.. Enjoy your mornings, afternoons, and evenings on the spacious lanai of this impeccably designed, decorated, and maintained ocean front home. This is an amazing place to watch a pod of spinner dolphins, Humpback whales, the beautiful Kona sunsets, or just relax and be amazed by the ever-changing Pacific Ocean. During Ironman, from the lanai you can view the competitors swimming around the turn buoy and out the front door you can view the competitors running. A fully outfitted island retreat, this is the ideal place to call home for your perfect Big Island adventure!

Enter through the front door, choose your bedroom, and drop off your luggage. This floor will be your refuge for privacy from the group. Both oceanfront bedrooms have sliding doors that lead to a large, shared lanai with unobstructed ocean views and a wonderful sea breeze. Relax on one of the 4 chaise lounges to read a book, gaze at the stars, or just enjoy the ocean as it majestically breaks before your eyes. Both rooms are beautifully appointed with king beds, plenty of storage, and flat screen TVs. The primary's ensuite bath includes a large shower, separated toilet, double lavatories on the vanity, and a large walk-in closet. The 3rd bedroom has a queen bed, flat screen tv, and plenty of storage. Each bedroom has its own air conditioner for personalized comfort as you sleep. A second full bathroom with an air tub/shower combo is off the hall between the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms. In addition, this level has a large laundry room with a full-sized washer and dryer, utility sink, and pull-out ironing board.

The main living area is a level up. The magic of the house shines on this floor as you are rewarded with indoor to outdoor living and non-stop expansive ocean views. The gourmet kitchen is extremely well equipped and functionally designed. The pass-through window from the kitchen to the lanai makes outdoor barbecuing and dining a breeze. Enjoy the comforts of your island home as you gather and relax on modern furnishings that include a queen sofa bed, love seat, chair and ottomans, large flat screen television, and an indoor dining table and chairs. Slide open the 20-foot disappearing doors and extend your living space to include the lanai. Here you can lounge on one of the love seats or dine at the gorgeous teak dining table, all while enjoying the sights, sounds, and breezes of the ocean. This floor includes a half bath and an air-conditioned office for work, study, or entertainment.

If you are a fan of golf, you will love the putting green located on the north side of the home. Here you can also explore and might even spot some crabs scurrying on the lava rocks or hanging out in the tide pools. Under the shade of some Milo trees, you will find a third dining area to enjoy a relaxing lunch or sip on a glass of wine.

A quick 5-minute walk down Alii Drive gets you to Honl's Beach for a swim; walk 5 minutes more and you are in town for shopping and dining. Or take the Kona Trolley which runs up and down Alii Drive and can be caught in front of the house or anywhere along its route. Concierge and activity planning services are available for all your needs such as grocery services, restaurant, and activity reservations.

Ecologically minded, this home is powered by solar energy and designed for maximum air circulation. Each bedroom has its own individually controlled air conditioning.

In 2021-2022, an extensive renovation updated the home's furnishings, décor, and many of the appliances. Minimum night varies seasonally 5–10 nights. Property is non-ADA compliant, non-smoking, and no pets are allowed. Please be aware that noise aware decibel warning devices are installed in this home. They do not record any conversation, but they do alert us if the noise levels exceed the residential limits in the area. The property is securely gated to the street and has 3 security cameras outside the home. Wi-Fi, and free local calls are included. All display photos were taken on site.

"Love this home. It is not only beautiful but located with the ocean waves just off the lanai. It is on a busy road, but noise was not a problem with the two main bedrooms on the backside with the ocean. Only thing is having to backup into driveway off that road. However, if I can do it anyone can with patience. I have stayed here 2 years in a row and hope to return in 2025. Great amenities and clean."

"Overall, it was great, but the high price definitely made it difficult to look past the inadequacy. The house is right outside of a busy “stop” intersection with a lot of cars. The windows of this home are not sound proof which made it impossible for us to use the bedroom facing the road. The main living floor doesn’t have any AC which is fine, but the ceiling fans are full of dust. The kitchen was well equipped and great to gather the family around. A lot of metal handles throughout the house had rust. If you can’t walk up a flight of stairs with your suitcase, this property is not good for you. Many different types of entry codes/methods made it confusing to check in, and the house keypads stopped working at midnight of the last day instead of 11 am check out time, which caused a lot of confusion. The management team was nice and try to make things right; they actually follow through with your requests. If the price was lower, I would have enjoyed the stay more. The view to the ocean was amazing and got to see some dolphins."

"Very nice house, spent majority of time on the lanai. Fridge water and ice not working they were responsive checking it out but could not fix, should have gotten some ice for us given the cost but no biggie. Very well equipped great for cooking, awesome selection of beach gear which is very helpful and wish was provided by more beach houses. Busy street unfortunately a bit noisy but get used to it and doesn't bother you on the lanai"

"Great place to enjoy HI. Very comfortable house for the four of us. Couple of notes for future renters. Since it’s right on Alii drive you know you’re in for parking challenges. Just back in through the gate and you can fit two cars and plenty of stairs to get your work out in. Well appointed and clean as advertised. Kona coast management was very responsive with our inquiries. Thanks for sharing your spot on the ocean with us."

"Property nicely laid out. Plenty of room for 2 families (4 adults, 4 children). All appliances, flatware, dishes, etc of very high quality and in excellent working condition. Very organized and not just a hodge-lodge of mixed plates/utensils, etc. The bath (multiple spray) showers took a bit of trial/error to learn but every outlet had high pressure and instant hot water. Bedding and linens was excellent as were supplied towels. Dressers, walk-in closets, lighting was plentiful. This rental house (per se) couldn’t have been better! The area was convenient to the local town, shops, gas, groceries, walked to see fireworks (4thJuly), with the only negative being the proximity to the very busy and LOUD Ali’i Drive. If in the ocean side of the house the sound was less noticeable. Also, great backyard with crystal clear water right off the rocks. Unfortunately, access into the water would be challenging. The slick rocks make entry challenging so you have to be very careful! And certainly don’t let children try entry there. Otherwise it’s great fun to walk and explore the tide pools and see all of the fish, crabs, anemones, sea urchins, etc. But even walking around can be dangerous for children on those slick rocks… be careful! With care though - it’s a GREAT adventure for little ones. Overall - had a fantastic time and looking to come back to this same house - in 2025, if not sooner."

"This is a great house that’s well-loved, clean, organized, and has everything you need for a great stay! The location is an easy walk or drive into town. Getting in/out of the carport is tricky at first, but definitely not anything that will hinder your stay. The view from the upstairs lanai along is worth it. I loved waking up to delicious coffee, the picturesque view and the sound of waves crashing on the lava rocks. I was concerned about living areas not shaving AC but it was no issue at all. The bedroom AC units worked well and provided nice comfort for restful sleep. All the appliances worked well and came in handy. The house comes with plenty of supplies for dishes, laundry and basic cooking. The passthrough window between the kitchen and lanai table is genius! If we ever travel to Kona again, we would definitely return to this house!"

"The views from the balconies were stunning and we loved falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the ocean. The house itself was great and had all the amenities we needed. The beds were comfortable, and they even had a couple of sheds on the bottom floor with beach accessories like a cooler, chairs, umbrella etc.. Parking was a bit tricky since it's best to back in and the house is on a busy road, however, you get used to just pulling in and waiting on traffic to cease before pulling out to backing in. The property management company was also super informative and emailed us with information several times before the trip started. The only thing that might be a con for some are that climbing up and down the stairs can be tiring for some. Otherwise, I'd say this property was definitely worth it if you want to stay with a large group in the Kona area. I highly recommend it."

We enjoyed everything about being here - the views, walking to town, exploring the fish from the lava rocks on the water, cooking together, putting on the green, and of course exploring the island near and far. The house was beautiful and comfortable. Someone put a lot of thought into the decor. Even the driveway and pedestrian gates are beautiful. You can't go wrong staying here. The only issue which can't be helped is the noise from the street. The place it really affects in the house is the back bedroom. It didn't bother us but it's noticeable. We will definitely stay here again if we come back to the big island. We all wished we were staying here longer!"

"From our initial entry and throughout the entire walkthrough, the home did not disappoint. So much space and beauty then there was the view outside…breathtaking! The large sliding doors/screens remained open at all times while we were in the home. I personally enjoyed the lanai every early morning alone with my cup o' joe and the view. The master suite was nothing short of spectacular with the amazing, spacious rain shower, gigantic walk-in closet it offered so much luxury for my husband and I. Although we've been together almost 25 years, we're not officially married, he made this official by popping the question and presenting me with a gorgeous ring out on our lanai, this made the house even more special for us! My son, his girlfriend and our niece thoroughly enjoyed it also. From the daily breakfasts prepared by my son and his girlfriend to the times spent eating our meals together either with the large doors open or out on the lanai, it was amazing just being together and celebrating our nieces high school graduation. It was so relaxing coming “home” after each day filled with excursions, shopping, exploring, eating or just having a drink and soaking up the gorgeous sights. We look forward to returning to your beautiful island and whether we stay at this property or another, we will definitely look to your company again. Mahalo, Stephanie"

"The Hale Moana home has become our favorite place to call home in Kona. Unbeatable views and ocean sounds make you instantly relax and know you've arrived in a special place. The entire home, including the beds and bathrooms were incredibly outfitted and the kitchen has anything and everything a novice to a chef would need to make microwave mac-n-cheese to fresh grilled Ahi with all the luxury of a five-star restaurant. We did also experienced the amazing restaurants and downtown fun that is all an easy walk from the front door, but also treated ourselves to meals on the Lani at the dining table. Kona beans were bought just up the hill and ground every morning for a perfect start to our upcoming adventure each morning. When back, a three hole putting green was there for evening fun as well as that amazing view for anyone wanting to just sit and be. It is amazing and we hope you will find it amazing too."

"I can't say enough about this property. The photos don't do it justice. I along with members of my family were there to celebrate my 50th birthday and couldn't be more pleased with our decision to stay here. Minutes from the several beaches, local shops and restaurants make this a perfect family vacation location. This spacious house has two levels of living space great for entertaining and family gatherings. One of my favorite things about the house is the lanai. The living room has two grand sliding doors that open up the living room, exposing you to the ocean air and the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks. This floor does not have AC. However, opening the doors to the lanai coupled with opening the windows allows the breeze and ocean air to circulate throughout. The lanai extends the width of the house and has multiple seating areas and outside dining table for meals overlooking beautiful sunrises and sunsets. My husband and I love to go to sleep and wake up to the sound of the ocean. Two of the three bedrooms equipped with king beds and both lead out to a second lanai. Every morning consisted of sitting on the lanai with a hot cup of coffee watching the sunrise and at times dolphins breaking the water in the wake of boats that traveled by. Master suite was very spacious and included a walk-in closet and plenty of storage space to totally unpack and make yourself at home. All bedrooms equipped with in-unit AC, and ceiling fans, and cable TVs. The house is well equipped with with everything you could possibly need to make yourself at home. From an array of cooking utensils, outdoor grill, extra towels & blankets, beach towels, snorkeling equipment, fishing polls, small putting green, plenty of storage and drawer space and much much more! Now for some things to be aware of. I wouldn't call these cons because the house and location is fabulous. The house is located on a main street which can be very busy. Be very cautious when entering and exiting the driveway. Street noise is a factor especially during commute hours where traffic can be heavy. The third bedroom is located on the street side and exposed the noise. The rest of the house is exposed to the ocean side where most outside noise is covered up by the sound of the ocean crashing on the rocks. There are so many wonderful things about this vacation home away from home that will certainly be a highlight of your Hawaiian vacation. Aloha!"

"Overall, I really enjoyed the stay at this property. Its spacious, well furnished, well supplied, and two of the bedrooms have king size beds that both face the ocean (this can be very hard to find). The bedrooms are very comfortable with air conditioning units in each room. I feel that as much attention went into decorating the second bedroom as the master. No one from my group stayed in the 3rd bedroom. it is well furnished, and nicely decorated (so it has an inviting feel) however the queen bed is a bit of a tight fit with the TV table. A simple rearranging of the room would solve that. As a split level, the upstairs (main floor) is a bit warmer and could use its own air conditioner unit. Fans are supplied and useful. The kitchen is HUGE and a great place for family to gather as with the furniture on the ocean side lanai. There are a few cons that are not the fault of the property managers/owners: A) yes, the house is conveniently located walking distance to the restaurants and shopping on Alii Dr. and I took full advantage of that. However, the house is only 3 houses south of a 3 way intersection. The road noise (Harley motorcycles revving engines, windows down and you can hear the music blaring from the cars, etc) at times interrupted the peacefulness of the day. Overall, I think this property is worth considering and looking at. The pros definitely far outweigh the cons. I will definitely continue to work with this property management -- they were awesome accommodating pandemic reschedule dates and answering all of our questions. They are very responsive."

"Property was located in an ideal spot to grab dinner in Kona or to hop on the highway for any number of our cross-island adventures. Lanai was lovely to lounge on for coffee in the morning, and catching sunsets in the evening. Surf was such that we could not swim or snorkle off the back, but we found a few spots close enough that this was not a huge worry. Would be a great place for a large group, it was just 2 of us so much of the house/amenities went unused and it's very well stocked!"

Very good
"This wonderful home has many wonderful attributes. I can't give it 5 stars because there were a few issues. To be totally fair, some of these are not in the owners control. The positives: Ideal location on the water and Ali'i Drive and a shirt walk to downtown Kailua-Kona. All the bedrooms are air-conditioned (we had problems with one unit not working initially, but the property manager, Kona Coast Vacations had someone out within an hour to take a look. It was fixed the next day). The view is spectacular! We saw dolphins almost every morning off the top lanai and there were frequent snorkelers in the water right behind the house. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you need for gourmet cooking and plenty of cabinet space to store all your groceries. The back two bedrooms are very spacious. The putting green on the side of the house is a fun bonus and we felt very secure with the electronic coded gates in the front. Some negatives: The elevator was inoperative. There are 37 steps to carry your groceries up to the kitchen and I believe 22 to carry the bags up to the bedroom floor. The house directly next door as well as the hotel across the street were undergoing major renovations and the days were filled with construction noise and fire alarms (from the hotel renovation). I realize the homes owners have no control over this, but it did disturb our peace. The top floor is not air conditioned, except for a small office. This isn't a huge deal with the ocean breeze, but two large windows on the south side do not open making the living room stuffy at times. We had a maintenance person out to take a look, so hopefully this will be fixed in the near future. The washer and dryer are apartment size and the dryer took forever to get a small load dry. For a house of this size, it is unbelievable that someone put in such small appliances when the laundry room is actually very large. There are trees in the back that block the ocean view from the bedroom lanais. A trimming would remedy this. The cushions on some of the patio furniture were torn and mildewed. They should be replaced. There is a wine cooler in the kitchen that needs repair, as it never showed a temperature below 65 degrees. Also, the wonderful gas grill had no grill brush for cleaning. I know this sounds like nit-picking, but I try to give the owners some honest feedback from a family that rents vacation homes like this frequently."

"A great place to escape the crowds and support local businesses. Located on the leeward side close to Kailua-Kona and Honokohau Harbor. Lanai is perfect for morning coffees and sunset viewing. Would definitely like to visit again."

"Beautiful property, very classy decor, the lanai was our favorite hangout. The view and the breeze off the water was so relaxing. I was worried at first because there is only A/C in the bedrooms but the way the doors and windows are placed let the breeze flow through the entire top floor where the living area and kitchen is and made it very comfortable, even in the heat of the day. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOUSE! The tide pools on the lava rocks in the backyard off the ocean were a pretty good substitute for lack of a swimming pool. The only downfall was the elevator was a bit persnickety and only worked part of the time, so getting luggage up and down the stairs was a bit taxing, but I would not let that deter me from renting again. Well worth the money!"

"The location of this property was perfect! Excellent view of the sunset which we enjoyed each night during dinner. Only downside is there was no AC which can make the guest room in the front of the condo a bit warm at night. However, owner provided plenty of fans to help. Definitely would recommend this property if you are looking for a place to stay on the Big Island."

"Our stay at the Moana Kona was as expected. Spacious, clean, well equipped unit with exceptional views. We did have issues with the washer and dryer. Management was quick to respond; but it seems the units may have reached their end and will most likely need replacing. Lastly, just a warning as we had multiple white shirts, blouses and shorts ruined by rust marks while leaning against the (wire portion) railing on the lanai. It wasn't until the last night that we figured out where we were getting the rust marks. Overall tho management was very responsive and the home was perfect for our needs."

"This is a great spot. Seems busy when you pull in (because it is close to downtown Kona) but the ocean in the back drowns out everything and you have your own private oasis. Swam off the rocks in the back. Swam out to the turn around buoy for the Ironman which is in your back yard. Beds are comfortable and house has tons of space. Kitchen is on third floor but there is an elevator to send your groceries up! 5 beach chairs are great for beach hopping or you can take them out on the rocks in your own back yard!"

"From the initial booking until final checkout everything was professional and simple. The house itself is right on the ocean and within walking distance to a small beach and also to the local shops and restaurants. Bedrooms were air conditioned and had dehumidifiers which made it a nice comfortable area to sleep for us desert people who are not used to humidity. Would definitely recommend this house."

"We rented a house with Kona Coast Vacations. Everything about the experience was great. Communications before the trip were timely and helpful. David was amazingly helpful in getting us bookings for the activities we wanted to do. The house was exceptional in every way- well cleaned, well stocked, great location. If we are able to make it back to the Big Island, we will use Kona Coast Vacations again."

"This house is perfect for three couples or a family. We stayed with our two adult children and their spouses. The upstairs living area is fantastic! The kitchen is large, very clean and well equipped. A large kitchen island makes it easy to prepare meals for a group. The very comfortable living area opens fully (with disappearing windows/walls to the large balcony lanai making the entire living area flow to the outside. We loved that. There is a large dining table on the lanai and comfortable patio furniture. What a relaxing setting to enjoy family, meals and scenery. Overall the house is very clean and well kept. (We've stayed at 12-15 VRBO homes in various locations throughout the years and this one rates in the top two). The people at the management company (Kona Coast Vacations) are great - friendly and helpful. They left a basket of Hawaiian goodies upon our arrival. They booked an activity for us, checked in after the first day to be sure everything was OK, and delivered clean beach towels when we couldn't figure out how to work the dryer (it was operator error!) The town of Kona is nearby for shopping and restaurants. A few things to be aware of: There is an elevator so you don't have to lug your luggage and groceries up two flights of stairs, although we were challenged a bit with getting it to work properly - but again, the Kona Coast people are a phone call away and very responsive. There is room for two cars to park under the house but it takes two people to get a car out of the driveway - one to drive the car and the other to hold traffic on the road so the driver can back out. The street is a little busy but you don't notice it at all inside the house because the house faces the water. Overall, this is a perfect house in a perfect location."

"Beautiful rental home with exceptional view and great management service. My only complaint is the parking. If Kona is at all busy, it's dangerous pulling out of or backing down the steep driveway. After having a family member get out to stop traffic a couple of times, we just parked along the street."

"We've rented some fairly spectacular homes over the years and this one was no exception - in fact it may have been the best one ever! Location, cleanliness, detailed house instructions, a fantastically equipped kitchen and ease of working with the rental company all made for a wonderful stay. If we could change one thing it would be to upgrade the master bedroom bed and furnishings. As they are, the bed and furnishings are comfortable and functional but when compared to the rest of the house, the master bedroom is the weak link. The other two bedrooms are compatible with the house's overall character. We certainly don't want to be mistaken on this point - in a lesser home the master bedroom would be absolutely fine but in this home (where everything lease is over-the-top) it could use an upgrade. Lastly, the pictures accompanying the advertisement for this house are very appealing as they are for most rental homes. In this case, while accurate, the pictures barely convey the beauty of the home or its views. This truly is a 5 star home!"

"We spent a week alternating between restful days, cooking at home in the gourmet kitchen, and high activity days. High activity days included snorkeling at Captain Cook's monument, body surfing and boogie boarding at the beautiful sandy beaches north of Kona airport, and a trip to see lava flowing into the sea from from the recent eruption. All were easy drives. Moreover, we could easily walk into town from this beautiful home to have a coffee, or view the dolphins, cruise ships, kayakers, and parsailors from the upstairs lanai. We were there with our two college-aged children and the home felt spacious and lent itself to some privacy during the day, Overall, this was a five-star vacation. A little pricey but well worth it!"

Very good
"We stayed here mid-July and had a wonderful time on the Big Island. Hale Moana Kona has a great view from both the upstairs main area and the two ocean facing bedrooms with nice decks to enjoy the outside weather, sounds and view. It was just a short walk to town. For the things that weren't the best. The steep driveway into the parking area as well as backing out into almost continuous traffic. Although we were not interested in it, the TV in the living area did not work or the retractable stove fan. The elevator did not work which we found out when we arrived. Good thing we didn't have anyone in a wheel chair or unable to walk far. My biggest complaint however would be in the description of the "air conditioning in living area" (living room). The only air conditioning was in a small room which served as an office. The entire living area which consisted of the living room and kitchen was open air with some ceiling fans. As nice as weather was, after a long day outside it would have been nice for our entire party of seven, to relaxed together in a central air conditioned area instead of retreating to individuals bedrooms to cool off. All and all, we had a great time. The management person was friendly, helpful and informative. Would we come back to the Hale Moana Kona, maybe. This review was transferred from our old website to the new one effective Jan 1, 2017"
