Country Delight originally stood in Northern Kentucky. The timbers were dismantled, numbered, brought to Texas, and reconstructed on the current site shortly after 2000. The right room or "pen" currently used as the dining room, likely dates from the late 1700's and the left "pen", the current living room, is guessed to be added on during the 1800's. This type of double pen structures was also known as a "saddle bag". The dining room's south wall boasts an old door, likely the original door to the original one room home. The living room has a spacious fireplace (seasonal use only) with a crane which accommodates hanging pots for cooking.
The space between the pens known as the "dog trot" was typically covered but left open to the elements on each side. "Dot trots" originally were outdoor living spaces between the "pens" used for under cover storage and a place for the dogs to bed down. When rebuilt, the "dog trot", or open area between the pens , was enclosed to incorporate a functional stairway to the upper level 2 bedrooms and a bath which were also added at that time.

As part of the reconstruction on its current site, the shed roof was attached to the west side of the house to include a bedroom which adjoins the living room, the bath, and the large farm kitchen. Another addition was the east-facing long front porch, which provides a pleasant place to sit on mild afternoons and evenings, affording pastoral views of the countryside.

The floors throughout are old wide floor boards milled from the early beams that glow with decades of life being lived and loving care.
The gardens surrounding the structure display many native and perennial plants. Diverse species of birds, especially hummingbirds, are regular visitors to the site. The adjacent pasture is home to several dozen sheep and donkey (Ida-Belle).

This historic and restful home is situated on 2 acres 8 miles west of Fredericksburg, Tx and is frequently enjoyed by many domestic and international visitors.

Please Note: You are renting a cabin in the Hill Country which means you may encounter wildlife (Snakes, Deer, Racoons, ETC) Please be aware of your surroundings, and take caution while driving at night. You may also encounter the various bugs, spiders, scorpions, and mice that live in the country AND sometimes do make their way inside. All properties do utilize pest control services on a regular basis BUT this does not guarantee pests or bugs will not be visible.

"Great place- it is pretty clear that the owner did a lot of work making this beautiful home. We love the old rustic cabin feel on multiple acres, far away from other people. So much nature! We loved it and will be back again!"

"This place is amazing … the 250 year old (+) cabin has such an authentic nostalgia, but has been modernized for comfort … the carpentry done in the reassembling is amazing ! The upgrade in no way took away from the authenticity! We absolutely LOVED our stay, and Rose Marie was so nice and friendly with all my questions with no hesitation in responding ! Peace and quiet so needed in this time and age …we live in. The landscaping is amazing too, so suiting for the cabin. ️. We absolutely hope to be able to come again. A place ! Don’t hesitate to book this place ! Thank you Rose Marie and husband for sharing history with us !"

"This stay was fantastic. The cabin was cozy with everything we could possibly need. It was great to go into the city or nearby state parks and then come back to a secluded place to cook dinner, sit by the fire and play games. We met the owners while they were taking care of the beautiful sheep. They were so kind and down to earth. We are planning on coming back next year!"

"Beautiful historical home in the Hill Country! Peaceful, scenic location (lots of hummingbirds!) and a super relaxed atmosphere. The house itself is clean and comfortable, with everything you need and ample space. Love the pioneer history behind it. If you’re planning on spending a lot of time in Fredericksburg and visiting the region’s vineyards, it’s a little out of the way, but not too bad. I would still choose to stay here again."

"Wonderful stay. Friendly and delightful hosts. Fun to watch the sheep and pet the donkey which my pups also totally enjoyed. Such a pleasure to stay in such a historic cabin in a beautiful, rural setting that was a very quick drive to Fredericksburg. So relaxing to sit on the porch and listen to nature. Highly recommend this host and location!"

"This cabin was a wonderful escape from the real world for a week. I most enjoyed watching the sunrise from the front porch in the morning or admire the gorgeous full moon in the evenings. My dog, Aria, had the best time patrolling the yard for small critters, and I saw so much amazing wildlife from my perch in the rocking chair."

"What a gem of a find! A lovely historical log cabin. Yes, a REAL log cabin, originally built in the 1700's, modified in the 1800's and later disassembled, moved from Kentucky, and reassembled in Fredericksburg. There were all the comforts of home, electricity, water, heat/ac, a television, and WIFI. The kitchen though slightly spartan was very workable. I cooked all our meals without issue. The stone fireplace is a feast for the eyes and functional in that it throws heat out into the room. Sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee watching in the still darkness of early morning as color faintly appears on the horizon and develops into the dawn of a new day or relaxing at the end of the day with a beverage of choice watching the sheep just outside the fenced yard and contemplating the people and events this home has witnessed, this is a marvelous step back in time with all the comforts of home, set about 10 miles from town. The owners are warm and unintrusive. A great find!"

"Great place to stay if you're looking for a quiet and comfortable spot in the country. The pictures don't do the property justice! The property transports you back to the 1700's, but with modern amenities and comfort. The house was extremely clean and comfortable and the grounds were beautifully landscaped with native plants and pathways. The nearest neighbors were the sheep grazing in the nearby fields. Perfect place to get away to the country and yet be downtown in 9 minutes!"

"I stayed for the weekend with my two adult daughters, and we really liked the house. Thanks to the directions provided, we had no problems finding the house. We enjoyed sitting out on the porch looking at the stars at night, and the sheep during the day. The stairs to the second floor are steep, as stated in the listing, so just be prepared. Communication with the owner was quick. I would stay here again."
