Welcome to The Refuge!

For a Closer look please view The Refuge promotional film below:

The Refuge is a charming 3BR/2BA cabin close to Boone, West Jefferson, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. With easy access right off of Highways 421 and 221, this is in an ideal location less than ten miles from Boone and less than ten miles from West Jefferson. The Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock, Tweetsie Railroad, Appalachian Ski Mountain, Appalachian State University, Sugar Mountain, Hawksnest, Grandfather Mountain, and Beech Mountain Ski Resort, and many other High Country attractions are all convenient to The Refuge.

The main level offers a great room with soaring, vaulted ceilings and hardwood floors. Dining for six and a fully-equipped kitchen area is open to the great room. Two bedrooms flank a full bathroom with a tub/shower on the main level. One is a queen bed, and the other has two twin beds. Both bedrooms have HDTVs. A covered front porch with a two-seat glider, an open-air rear deck with a gas grill, and a new hot tub complete the main level

Upstairs features a private master suite with a queen bed, a full ensuite bathroom with a centered soaking tub, shower, and an HDTV.

The Refuge offers a fun outdoor setting with wonderful amenities for our guests. Walk down a natural outdoor stairway to the wooded creekside fire pit and picnic area, explore both cleared and wooded rolling land, all bordering a rushing mountain stream. Soak in the hot tub on the rear deck. The property is private and at the end of a quiet residential road.

*Please Note: A pathway from the house leads down to the hollow, which features the creek, fire pit, picnic area, and peaceful grounds to explore. An outdoor lighting system will offer visibility for navigating the path in the evening. The mountain terrain can be dangerous if careless or not paying attention. Rocks can be slick, especially those in or near the creek. Terrain can be inconsistent and can cause twisted ankles and falls. Please explore with care and be safe.

*NO HUNTING, TARGET PRACTICE, OR SHOOTING OF ANY KIND ON OR AROUND THE PREMISES OF THE REFUGE

Additional Note: The property has two exterior security cameras which face the parking lot/front door and the side of the home. The cameras are only operational when guests are NOT PRESENT in the house. The cameras do not face any of the living areas or rear deck areas of the home.

"We really enjoyed our recent stay. We were there for a business event so accessibility was important to us. The Refuge was conveniently located and provided an amazing sense of being out in the woods with lots of privacy but so easy to get to. The only negatives I would have are the bed in the upstairs bedroom was so uncomfortable for my personal taste. It was a very hard mattress and the bed made lots of noise. We also found it quite hot upstairs and were not able to figure the thermostat out. We called the day we were leaving to be sure we left it as requested in our agreement and they were unable to figure out was going on with the thermostat as well. Otherwise it's a great cabin a nice location.

We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and found such privacy out there in the woods. The ceiling vent in the upstairs bedroom was not opened up all the way, but that has been remedied. We have not previously heard concerns about the mattress being too firm but understand personal tastes, it is a newer mattress. We hope you return to The Refuge and enjoy another stay!

"We just spent the most wonderful weekend at this cabin! We arrived on a Thursday night somewhat frazzled from Charlotte traffic and life in general. As soon as we were inside, the scent of pine and the thoughtful decorating touches made us realize that this would truly be our "Refuge" for the weekend. The cabin itself was wonderfully clean and well maintained. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans, etc. All appliances were clean and in working order. The living room had comfy leather couches and a TV with lots of channels which pleased hubby. The dining room could seat 8 and the table was set with beautiful place settings. There were two queen rooms and one with 2 twin beds. The bed we used was comfy with lovely bedding. The upstairs bedroom has a jacuzzi tub to die for! We spent a lot of time on the porches. The front porch with its glider was perfect for a quiet morning with coffee and listening to the birds. The back deck boasted a nice grill and a fantastic hot tub! Spending time in the hot tub with a glass of wine and the stars above was definitely a favorite. Oh and did I mention that there's an amazing set of stairs down to a fire pit and picnic table by a stream? The owners really have thought of everything to make your stay as restful and fun as possible! The nice thing about this cabin is that it is just a short distance from the Blue Ridge Parkway and very easy access on a gravel road back to magnificent privacy. We enjoyed going to Blowing Rock, a winery, and Grandfather Mountain all of which were under a 40 minute scenic drive. The cute little town of West Jefferson is only 15 minutes away and has a grocery store, cute shops and restaurants. We especially liked The Tavern with great outdoor seating and music. The owners obviously care about making their cabin a refuge for all who visit. We will be heading back for sure!"

"We were looking for a relaxing Christmas break with our teenage boys and The Refuge was heaven sent. We had a lovely stay, felt very comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved the trails and the creek was so relaxing and soothing to hear while we walked outside in the mornings. We went to dinner in Boone a couple of times, went skiing in Sugar Mountain visited the caverns in Bristol, and went to the Tweestie Railroad. Everything was within reach and the drives were beautiful. We were fortunate to have excellent weather during our stay. I highly recommend The Refuge to any family wanting to relax and enjoy the wonderful nature surrounding it. We have teenage boys who wanted to ‘do stuff' but this cabin is one of those places you really don't need to go anywhere but relax if you choose to do so. Food Lion supermarket was minutes away and food and drinks is all you need for a wonderful stay!"

"Nestled in the NC mountains is a cabin that truly represents its name: The Refuge. The cabin is perfectly located - remote enough to be tranquil and quiet yet close enough to stores and restaurants to be convenient. The kitchen is well-stocked with plenty of utensils, cookware and dinnerware. The cabin itself is beautifully decorated with lovely rustic antiques. Great care has been taken to assure ultimate comfort with quality bedding, soft fluffy towels and even a bit of firewood to get you started. The hot tub was the perfect ending to our relaxing days and the owners even supplied large pool-size towels. Downhill from the cabin is a creek-side area with a large fire pit perfect for roasting marshmallows and telling stories. Our stay was so relaxing and restful and we were even blessed to see some light snow! If you are looking to unwind, unplug and relax - The Refuge is the spot! We can't wait to visit again and highly recommend this cabin!"

"Our family of four loved The Refuge. My two young boys loved the stream area and fire pit. The house was cozy and centrally located to many Ashe/Watauga County towns. The only hiccup we had was the coat rack and a piece of art fell off the walls-so make sure everything is hanging securely. Also, my two year old locked himself in the downstairs bathroom-may want to keep a pop lock key handy for stressed out parents. Luckily-we had a wire hanger that we were able to use to pop the lock. We will be back-such a lovely mountain home!

We are glad you loved your stay at The Refuge and enjoyed the stream and home! We have ensured that the rustic coat rack and all décor is secured to walls and have left a pop lock key above the frame to the bathroom for the whole house use. We value your feedback and await your family’s return. - Management"

"Extremely happy with our recent stay at The Refuge. The cabin is very relaxing, highly secluded, and the creek area is amazing. It rained most of our stay so we enjoyed just being lazy around the fireplace and reading. Though hearing light rain on the leaves and rocking on the front porch was just what we needed to slow down and relax. Plenty of cooking essentials in the kitchen, though conveniently located 15 mins from either Boone or West Jefferson for food and grocery options. You'll never want to leave!"

"We loved our stay at The Refuge. We go to the mountains every year, whether it is in Tennessee, or North Carolina. This cabin was definitely one of our better stays. Beds were comfy, kitchen was well stocked, decor was beautiful and the cabin was spotless. Only negative I can say is that we did not have any dishtowels and there were only 5 glasses. I only mention this because it goes to show how great the cabin is if dishtowels and glasses were our only issue. Thank you for a great stay.

We are glad you loved your stay at The Refuge! Over time, glasses do get damaged or broken, and the owners have completely restocked all glasses and in addition, dishtowels. We look forward to having you return for another great stay! -Management "

"The location of this cabin is perfect. Private and serene. We loved the fire pit, playing in the snow, and walking all the trails. Our only complaint would be the walls are very thin... Whoever sleeps in the queen guest room will hear every little noise that comes from upstairs. They should consider putting carpet in the upstairs room to help muffle the noise. Other than that we loved it and would definitely stay here again!

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at The Refuge! We haven’t received feedback about sound concerns, but the owners are planning on sound insulating the jetted hot tub directly above the Queen bedroom and putting area rugs in the rooms to absorb noise. We look forward to your return at The Refuge!

"I could not have been happier with my stay at The Refuge. To begin, Carolina Cabin Rentals was easy to work with. All correspondences were professional and kind. The Refuge is truly that as the cabin is nestled into a secluded wooded area with easy parking. The cabin is warm and cozy. The owners even have the cabin decorated for the holidays! Everything about the cabin is spot on - clean and tidy decor, comfy beds and couches, fully stocked kitchen (they even have a coffee grinder!), grill that made the perfect steaks, relaxing hot tub on the back porch - I could go on and on! My favorite part of the property is the creek side fire pit. You cannot go wrong with staying at The Refuge. I look forward to scheduling another stay!"

"This lovely and cozy log cabin is located adjacent to a wooded area that lines up to a creek bed and firepit. The house was super clean and fully stocked and the perfect getaway for my husband, myself, my mother-in-law and teenage daugther. We enjoyed sitting out at night on the deck, grilling out for dinner and my husband and daugther loved the hot tub after a polar plunge in the creek bed. We loved how easy it was to get to from the Cary area versus Boone and Banner Elk that has much more congestion. We would definitely stay there again. Great location to everything."

"Our recent stay at The Refuge was just perfect for unplugging and recharging in a lovely wooded respite. The authentic log cabin atmosphere was warm, comfortable, and filled with thoughtful touches. We particularly enjoyed the ability to have a fire either in the lovely indoor fireplace or outdoors by the private picturesque stream. It was the adventure of camping and comfort of home all in one trip! Everything we needed was found in the kitchen and baths. Plenty of storage in bedrooms. The grill, large TVs, and hot tub were all enjoyed on nights inside. And when we wanted to go out to dinner, hiking, tubing, or a drive on the Blue Ridge it was all just a short drive away. "My family spent a week at the refuge and it was one of the best vacations we have had. The cabin was great. If you want a peaceful and relaxing time, this is the cabin. All you hear are the birds and the water from the creek below. We have daughters ages 7 and 10, they loved exploring and the campfire by the creek. The cabin had a well stocked kitchen and spacious bedrooms. It is about 20 minutes from Boone. They are just finishing construction off the highway in which they added u-turns making the drive so much quicker to town. We will definitely book "The Refuge" again in the future."

"We booked the Refuge so we could all get away together and unplug from technology and our busy lives. The property is lovely and was just what we needed. We were able to enjoy some days at the cabin, playing games in front of the fire, enjoying the hot tub, building a fire in the firepit by the stream and roasting marshmallows, taking walks through the surrounding woods, exploring the rushing stream, sitting on the front porch and reading, and taking amazing photos of the deer in the mornings. The other days we took trips out to Grandfather Mountain, hiking to the top and over the singing bridge; and to Moses Cone park, Flattop Manor, and hiking to the top of the Firetower. The Refuge is situated far enough away to feel remote, but still close enough to attractions and amenities, grocery stores, downtown Boone, etc. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the cabin and the professionalism and responsiveness of the rental team. We hope to repeat the whole experience again soon."

"We booked this cabin at the last minute after our plans had changed for the holiday weekend. It was a nice cabin. We were a group of 3 and the space was perfect, it may be tight for more people than that. The stream on the property is amazing and a fun little escape. Things to consider: The beds were a bit uncomfortable - maybe a mattress topper would help if you don't want to replace. Also, more seating is needed on the front porch and back deck. The view is great but we felt like we couldn't enjoy it because there was no where to sit comfortably!

Thank you for your comments Abbey! We are glad the space was perfect for you - it is meant for up to 6 persons who have routinely enjoyed it for several years. Based on your feedback, the owners plan to replace the beds later this month, in addition to purchasing more seating appropriate to the size of the porches, particularly the front porch. Come back and enjoy the view with additional seating soon! --MGT"

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the refuge! the cabin was neat, clean, and cozy. The only issue was that six people staying in a cabin for seven days can produce a lot of trash and garbage. There was only one small outside garbage can...not nearly enough space to put the trash that was produced. I would suggest another outside garbage container. Thanks again!
