Description

Alpenhaus is a gorgeous and secluded mountain home located in the Valley of the Sun neighborhood, less than 24 miles from Breckenridge. This spectacular 3 bedroom/3 bathroom, pet friendly home is on heavily wooded property with fabulous views of the mountains in the distance. In addition to enjoying the beautiful outdoor area and elevated wrap-around deck, there is nothing like sinking into the private hot tub for a long, hot soak after a day of Colorado outdoor adventuring.

Step through the door of Alpenhaus and into the quintessential Colorado Mountain Cabin.
The ground floor offers a cozy Entertainment Room with comfortable seating around a Smart TV that is mounted over a roaring gas fireplace. Enjoy walkout access to the secluded hot tub for an evening soak under the stars. Just beyond the Entertainment Room is a plush and cozy Queen Bed fitted with our comfortable cotton bed linens and the adjacent Ground Floor Bathroom offers a standard pedestal sink, toilet and a bathtub/shower combo.

Walk up the stairs to the Great Room where you can enjoy high vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling views of the surrounding woodlands and distant peaks. The spacious Living Area has comfortable leather couches centered around a wood-burning fireplace and majestic stone hearth all open to the Dining Area and the bright and cheerful Kitchen. The Dining space has a large table with comfortable seating for 6, a sideboard and walkout access to the propane BBQ grill. The well appointed Kitchen has custom cabinets and countertops, numerous cooking gadgets and high-top seating for 2 at the bar - the perfect place for whipping up your family's favorite meal! Just beyond the Kitchen, the Mid-Level Bedroom offers large windows, a Queen bed, a corner Twin and a large storage closet. The Mid-Level Central Bathroom features a standard vanity, toilet, corner shower and full size washer and dryer available for guest use - So no need to waste precious vacation time at the laundromat in town!

Up to the top floor open Loft where there is a cozy reading nook, a set of Twin Bunk Beds with a small corner television and the Top Floor Bathroom with a standard vanity, toilet and a bathtub/shower combo - where you choose to start your day with a quick refreshing rinse or sink in for a long soak after a long day on the slopes. The Lofts Master Bedroom has large windows, a comfortable King size bed fitted with our cozy cotton bed linens and a large storage closet.

The spacious, elevated, wrap-around deck space is ideal for summer evenings lounging under the stars. Comfortable deck furniture around a gas fire pit provides all the mountain ambiance you could desire for your Colorado retreat.

Valley of the Sun is home to a variety of wildlife and this spectacular location affords opportunities to observe Elk, Deer and Foxes (just to name a few!) right on the property.
Additionally, the wetland area located less than 1 mile from the home is one of the few areas where you may be able to see Moose in their natural habitat.

The driveway is plowed in the winter and the roadways are maintained by the county, but 4-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES ARE REQUIRED from November through May due to the frequent snow storms in this area.

Park County is an activity center of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, it's a great "Base Camp!" If you can think of an outdoor activity, you will probably find it within 10-20 minutes of the cabin. Activities include skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain climbing, snow-shoeing, horseback riding (winter too!), ice climbing, fishing, hunting, rafting, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, mine exploration, canoeing, kayaking, and much much more.

"This cabin was beautiful! The windows on the second floor in the living room allowed for a amazing view of the mountains. One suggestion I have is to invest in better pillows for the beds. They were all extremely flat and uncomfortable. Also, I suggest adding a tv to the main living room on the second floor. That's where everyone gathered and to have no tv there was ehhh. We did move one from another floor so we could all watch movies together."

"Our family of 7 had a pleasant 3 night stay at the Alpenhaus cabin. Very clean and spectacular views of the mountains. It would have been better if camp fire was allowable as we brought smores and always tell stories around a camp fire. We did use the indoor wood burning fireplace which was nice and there was plenty of wood. Plenty of towels provided and everyone loved the hot tub. A few things renters should be warned about - the road leading up to the cabin (Venture Rd) that GPS defaults to, is a very steep and slippery rd equivalent to a ski hill in the winter. Although warned in the email, it was the last sentence in the email but not stating how slippery and dangerous it is. Not everyone reads word to word and as an important safety precaution it should be warned at the beginning of the email. We unfortunately did take this road and got stuck. We had to call a tow to get us out of the ditch. Lastly the elevation is 10,000 ft. We could have researched this via Google but as our first time traveling to Colorado, we didn't expect it to be very hard on our bodies (hard to breathe, nauseous, light headed, leg aches, poor appetite). Overall, we enjoyed our stay and still recommend it to all."

"We loved the location of the house but the lower level was dirty and we had to deal with spiders. The company did bring over items for us to address the issue which did help but it was still upsetting having so many in the house and in the bed especially the downstairs lower level. There were spider eggs in the couch bed downstairs and we had spiders in the beds and all over. We realize its in the woods but there were so many spiders."

"We loved this property! The house is large, light, airy with huge windows in the great room overlooking the forest and the mountain view with comfortable furniture throughout. It was immaculately clean and well cared for. The huge deck is a wonderful place to perch and listen to the nature sounds and enjoy the view. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen very well stocked with any cooking utensils and pans needed (we did not find the issues earlier reviews mention). There were plenty of extra supplies (extra paper towels, garbage bags, toilet paper). The house is secluded (can’t see any other neighbors), quiet and peaceful. The property management company was great; very responsive and helpful with any questions before and during our stay. We would definitely stay here again. We did not use the hot tub, grill or fireplace so cannot comment on those features. A few things to note: 1. The last section of road up to the home is no joke. The listing requires a 4 WD vehicle in winter though we came in August and one section is both steep and rocky. We used a route the opposite way that’s smoother when going on excursions (the bonus was it goes by a lake area where we saw moose daily). 2. The downstairs King bedroom is not enclosed. There is a moveable screen that separates the bed from the sitting/TV area. 3. Bring soap for the shower. The property management company will instruct you to bring all needed toiletries and this includes soap or gel for the shower."

Loved the ability to go in the hot tub after putting the kids to bed, with incredible views of the stars. Our visit was seamless and felt like a true retreat from daily life. Everyone, kids included, said they wanted to come back - we would stay here again in a heartbeat!"

"Hi there, We enjoyed our stay and appreciated the timely communication regarding the rental. The house itself and the location were great. A few minor notes for your reference: 1) The kitchen supplies could use a few upgrades - provided frying pans are too small and handles are falling apart, only one wine glass, no baking sheet, only two dishwashing detergent pods were provided, no pepper in the house (we bought some and left it for future renters) 2) Dish Network was not working (error code 620) 3) Ping pong table shown in promotional photos but was not present. This was actually a selling point for me so it was a bit of a disappointment. Overall a great stay! Thank you!"

"Overall, the property was great and we had an enjoyable time. Observations and suggestions: -handrail on front stairs loose/broken -on/off knob on lamp in main floor bedroom broken/missing -hot tub issues-temperature and jets not working properly-texted but never received reply -cooking utensils (pots and pans) need serious upgrade -plenty of firewood cut and stacked, but very minimal amount split and dried for use We are very flexible and were able to minimize these issues and work around them. This is a great property, and with some additional attention to some details, it can remain so and continue to be enjoyable for all who choose to stay there."

"This was a great location, and we really enjoyed our time at the house. There was plenty of space for everyone including a nice area for the kids to get loud downstairs while the adults visited on the main level. The hot tub was great. It was lovely to have a wood fireplace on one floor and a gas fireplace on another, and there was plenty of wood provided for the fireplace. Normally in a location like this, we wouldn't be all that interested in TV, but Thanksgiving football is a watcher for us, so it was a little bit of an inconvenience not to have TV access on the main floor. The managers were very responsive to all of our questions and needs. The beds were quite comfortable and the bedding was nice, but the only pillows provided were fairly flat which isn't my preference. Among rentals, there is a wide variety in which items are provided - renters should be aware that this rental is on the lower end of that spectrum - no shampoo or conditioner, no dishwasher soap, only one trash bag, and a starter of toilet paper and paper towels. We selected this home in part because it is pet friendly - wonderfully, it could have passed for a pet-free home in cleanliness. Overall, it's really a beautiful place, and we feel very fortunate to have spent our Thanksgiving here. We would definitely stay here again."

"The rental was beautiful, and had beautiful views! We loved having a wood burning fireplace. The cabin was clean. My only reason for not giving the rental a 5 is it had very limited cookware. The rental needs more and larger skillets, and a blender. The altitude is no joke, we didn't have any issues with our health due to it, but it can definitely be felt! I would stay here again, it's a nice secluded place, which I love! Thanks for letting us use your cabin!"

That was the vacuum in main floor bedroom. Had very few wash cloths. And need a nice skillet very bad. But the house was very nice and clean. most cabins we have rented in the past was dirty. This one was very clean. I would be nice to have a tv in living room/dinning room. That is where most people spend alot of time. It is nice to watch TV in mornings to see what is going on in the world. The house is beautiful. Amazing views."

There are breathtaking views of the mountains (14ers), wonderful trails for hiking within a short walk or drive and all amenities anyone could ask for. Fairplay is an awesome little town a brief drive down the mountain with very nice people-you must explore! Breckenridge is a short drive away as well and very convenient. "This mountain property was absolutely gorgeous, it had plenty of space for a family of 8, and it was located in a secluded spot in the middle of a pine tree paradise. Looking out the tall windows in the main room gave us a stunning view of the mountains and forest every single day, and it was fantastic to finally unplug from city life. The upstairs deck was a lovely spot to sit quietly, watch the sunrise in the morning while drinking a hot cup of coffee and appreciating the sweet sounds of nature. It was also a pleasure relaxing down in the hot tub under the stars and the full moonlight in the evening. My boys and the dog were in heaven all week exploring the woods, being wild outside and adventuring around the area. We also enjoyed cozy family time each night by the fireplace with all the wood nicely cut, ready and available to burn. Our family had an absolutely exquisite time and would definitely consider renting this property again in the future for another family getaway in the mountains. However, there were several things we noticed upon arrival that should be fixed for the comfort & safety of your future guests: 1) Fire extinguisher was empty. 2) Spray nozzle at the kitchen sink is broken. 3) Light above the stove was burnt out & needs to be replaced. 4) Recliner chair in the loft had a broken off leg and did not work properly. 5) Two of the lamps were broken. 6) Not enough wine glasses/ dishes for the family. 7) Three of the small windows were broken & would not close shut (main bath/ bed & master bedroom). 8) No basic cleaning supplies to maintain property (window cleaner/kitchen & bath spray). 9) Hot tub buttons were broken (can't adjust temperature or spray pressure). Suggestions: It would be helpful to also have some small dressers in the bedrooms to put personal belongings in as well as providing a few more blankets since it gets quite chilly at night."

"Great spacious cabin. Was able to fit our family reunion just fine. The proximity of Breckinridge was also a plus. We found all we needed to feel comfortable. Some small notes: The main floor patio is rather large and is really missing some shade and rocking chairs to enjoy that view. Outdoor table was also really missed. I mean a kitchen and grill are right there, but absolutely no way to seat everyone outside. And main concern: Master bathroom has a large window… and absolutely no cover. I mean anyone passing by the window will see all of the inside of the bathroom… Otherwise, loved the woods, and the moose passing by the cabin. Hummingbird feeder would really benefit the place…"

"We stayed in Alpenhaus located on a beautiful property in the woods near Fairplay for a week over the 4th of July. The 4 of us (2 couples) found the cabin very spacious and comfortable. We had 2 dogs with us as well, and they loved the wide open space outside. It was clean, accommodating, and well stocked. Second Home Vacation Rentals was very attentive before, during, and after our stay making sure we were having a great trip. The plan for the trip was to hike as much as we could and visit Breckenridge. There were plenty of trailheads within 30 min drive, and while Breckenridge was a zoo (it was a holiday week - so understandable), we fell in love with the little towns of Fairplay (amazing restaurants and distillery!) and Alma (food trucks and general store). Definitely recommend 4x4 even in the summer months, as back roads are rocky, steep, and rutted. We got to explore a lot of places off the beaten path and had a wonderful trip to the mountains!"

Batteries are missing in the upstirs TV remote The ice maker is fickle. Our guest informed us that the basement bathtub does not hold water. The railing outside at the back of the house is loose.
