Description

Sugar Pine Lodge is a magnificent mountain retreat is nestled in the deep woods just 25 miles from Breckenridge. It is a great area to stay because you can still ski and stay in a secluded luxurious home instead of a noisy condominium with traffic jams. You can still dine, shop, and enjoy the entertainment in Breckenridge as it is only 25 miles away. The home is totally secluded and surrounded by woods but yet is only 5 minutes from Highway 9. The views of the mountains are breath-taking. The white-capped Mountains are visible from the great room, dining room, upper deck, lower porch, and the recreation room. The home is decorated tastefully with cabin decor. It looks like it is straight out of Log Homes Illustrated Magazine. It has all the modern amenities but is surrounded by natural beauty. It's far enough away from the crowd to be secluded and private but close enough to get to skiing, sites, restaurants, supplies, etc. nearby.

The spacious living room has seating for 8-10 and has a cozy wood-burning fireplace (you'll want to bring wood to enjoy!). There are two master suites and three full baths. The master suite and bath on the main level has a private bath and a huge walk-in closet. The other master suite upstairs has a queen bed and flat screen TV. Both Baths are huge with 2 sinks and a tub/shower combination with beautiful custom slate. There is also a loft with a cozy reading room just down the hall from the upstairs master suite. Downstairs there is a large recreation room with an electric stove, a library, a flat screen TV, and lots of games. There is a separate room with a poker table, a full size wet bar, and two bunk beds where the kiddos or the adults can hang out. The gorgeous bar has everything you will need for entertaining or just relaxing while watching a movie on the big screen TV in the adjoining recreation room. Both rooms are beautifully decorated and the sofa is a sleeper sofa with an 8" mattress so it is very comfortable. There is a new huge hot tub on the deck with amazing views! Relax after a day of skiing or hiking!

In winter, (four wheel drive is required), there's Breckenridge world class skiing within 25 miles. Numerous other ski venues (Copper Mtn., Keystone, Vail, Monarch, Ski Cooper) are within another 1/2 an hour of Breckenridge. Other winter activities nearby include cross country skiing, Snowmobiling. During the summer, there's white water rafting, hiking, ATV trails, biking, fishing, hunting, and camping. You can relax and just enjoy the natural beauty or head out to the nearby towns/resorts/parks, and enjoy the unlimited winter and summer activities the area has to offer.

In the summer you will be in the center of all activities including old mine ruins, Montgomery Reservoir, Mt. Lincoln, Mt. Bross, Mt. Quandary and many more. Fairplay (just 10 miles away) is the activity center of the Colorado Rocky Mountains and is often referred to as the Base Camp for all activities some of which include hiking, mountain climbing, horseback riding, ice climbing, fishing, hunting, rafting, 4-wheeling, ATVing, mine exploring, canoeing, kayaking, and much much more. Alma is only 5 minutes away and offers dining, shopping, and entrances to some of the most beautiful drives in Colorado such as Kite Lake, Bristlecone Pines, and Mosquito Pass, and the trail heads to many of the famous 14ers.

If you can think of an outdoor activity, you will probably find it within 10-20 minutes of the cabin. It is a great home to call your "Base Camp". This is a beautiful home to spend any season of the year. The access is easy and 4-wheel drive is not a in the summer but is recommended in the winter months. Breckenridge is only 30 minutes away and the road is always kept open. It is an absolutely beautiful drive with very little traffic. If you come in on I-70 you can literally spend hours going 20 miles from the highway to Breckenridge so this is a fabulous option for those wanting to ski.

"The house was exactly as advertised. Fantastic views. Secluded but very accessible and an easy drive over to Breckenridge and Frisco. You for sure need the 4 wheel drive especially in the winter months. The house has everything you need to be comfortable."

"We stayed at this lovely cabin, and really enjoyed it. The beds were nice and comfortable, we had all the basics that we needed, communication was absolutely excellent. Probably the best I've ever experienced. Our group consisted of Great-Grandmother, Grandmother, daughters and granddaughters. We felt safe and secure. Coming from Texas, always dreaming of a white Christmas.... this cabin surely delivered. The puzzles and games were awesome in passing the evening time. Thank you very much for hosting us in your wonderful cabin."

"The views were breathtaking. The house was not very clean. There was toothpaste spot spatter all over the faucet last up stairs, one of the spatulas had dried egg all over it. While playing cards with the family my daughter dropped a card and underneath the couch was filthy, the kids also said that the couch in the basement had empty plastic bottles under it. Kids slept in upstairs bed while my husband and I slept on the main floor because the second night we were there the spiders were horrible in the basement. Which was sad because the kids really did like having there own space to themselves before the spiders moved in. The hot tub we used only one night because it was dirty, and the beds were horrible. They were very uncomfortable, feels like an old mattress with some type of topper on it. I rolled into my husband every night. The road to the cabin is a good 15 minute hike and very very bumpy. The house is beautiful though and pretty secluded which we loved and in the morning we had a few birds visiting us on a daily. Despite the bad stuff I still would stay here again."

"This cabin is every bit as amazing as it looks in the pictures. It’s nestled in and among the trees with no visible neighbors and has a spectacular view from the deck. It was exceptionally clean, and stocked with everything a person would need for their stay. Communication with the management company was a breeze, as was check in. They even sent a little “scavenger hunt” list of things to look for on the drive up, which was really fun even for someone (like me) who had done that drive a number of times before. We will definitely be back"

"Our family thoroughly enjoyed our 5 day stay here! Cabin was beautiful with even more beautiful views! House was stocked beyond expectations, although, could benefit from a new vacuum cleaner. Many reviews talked about having to reset the water heater, but our family of 6 never had to reset it a single time, and with that many people there were lots of showers, baths, dishes and laundry. So, maybe all is fixed now! We look forward to staying here again!"

"It is a long way off the beaten path! For us, that was perfect. The hot tub is well placed. The deck provides views of many wild animals and native birds. The TV probably works we didn't need it! 3 Mule deer, a jack rabbit and 10 Moose in 3 days! Great spot! Great communication! Easy to follow check out procedures!"

It was perfect for our little family if 3 and would couldn’t have asked for a better house to come back to after our daily adventures. We loved Fairplay and Alma and it was close enough to several big attractions. We will definitely be back!"

Only (very slight) negatives.... hot water heater had a hard time (and there were only two of us) - had to reset it multiple times......and (unfortunately) there was NO firewood.. We stayed there 5 nights and on the last night, they brought us 2 bundles...... That will never stop us from returning though and -- we will return!"

"This beautiful home lives up to every promise. We stayed 11 nights and would have signed up for 11 more if it hadn’t already been booked. The house is “move-in ready” as realtors like to say. All mechanical systems function perfectly. The exquisite gourmet kitchen has every amenity and utensil imaginable. Walk in, nothing to do but sit down and relax. The mattresses that were mentioned in a couple of previous reviews have been replaced and we found the new ones to be excellent. The owners obviously take great pride in this spacious and finely crafted home. We’ve never been adversely affected by altitude, but Sugar Pine Lodge is located at 11,200 ft. if you are concerned. We’ve rented many times from VRBO in Colorado and Utah. Second Home Vacation Rentals is the most attentive and responsive agency we have dealt with. They are excellent. Two recommendations for dining in Fairplay. Cafe Sanchez has excellent and authentic Mexican food and Mr. Burro next door to Sanchez serves great sandwiches."

"I cannot say enough good about the stay at Sugar Pine Lodge! It was more than I expected! My husband and I really needed a getaway. When we pulled up, I cried. The view was stunning! The home was incredible and beautiful! I mean absolutely beautiful! It was fully stocked with everything we needed. The hot tub was very enjoyable. One night it rained softly while in the hot tub. Wonderful. The property was private and clean. It was a great location for what we wanted to do. We went around the corner and hiked up the Pika Trail and it was easy and accessible, as well as gorgeous! We drove around the area a lot. We saw two moose, and deer came into the yard quite a bit. Breckenridge was close and on our way there, we saw two black bears! We saw elk and mule deer in different places close. We felt like we had the perfect location for privacy and quietness, and yet close enough to Breckenridge. When we drove around, we felt like we were staying at the prettiest place by far. We have had a hard couple of years. I fought breast cancer twice, deaths, and tragedy in our family. I felt like that week, in that place, was so healing for us both. We are a very close couple and this precious place was such a ministry to our hearts. We will absolutely be back. It will always be a respite for us. It will always be the quiet place where we found healing. It will always be in our hearts."

"We were prepared with a 4WD Jeep and 4Runner because we were traveling to the mountains in February, so the road from Breck to the cabin was a fun adventure. We had to dig a little through a drift of snow to get from the driveway to the deck, but that was part of the fun and well within expectations when we booked a cabin in the mountains. The rooms were large and clean. The floor plan worked perfectly with 4 kids and 4 adults. Most nights the adults enjoyed the fire while the kids watched movies or played video games down stairs. The hot tub was great everyday to relax and enjoy the mountain valley views. Unfortunately I didn’t bring snow shoes or cross country skis to try the trails nearby. Next time! Only thing we were missing was a pizza cutter but we made do."
