"We really enjoyed our stay at High Road Cabin. The view from the driveway is beautiful. We had ample room with our family of 5. Cabin was able to accommodate more guests easily. The kids enjoyed the basement and it's entertainment activities. A few things to consider would be the fact that you can not see if there is traffic coming on the road when pulling out due to incline of the driveway and it was impossible to turn right out of the driveway without having to make a few adjustments of the vehicle on the road. If the opening to the driveway had been wider it's likely you would be able to see if traffic was coming or easily exit to the right. The kitchen garbage disposal was not working (did not impact stay once we were aware). We would recommend this cabin to other groups as a lovely home."

"Great place to stay and the view was wonderful. We enjoyed the fire pit but had to get creative in how to light it. Matches would have been helpful as in today's environment and few smokers we don't carry matches with us. Other than that everything was great."

"We loved the house and enjoyed our time there. We planned to stay in and cook/eat at the house instead of going out. We brought most of the things we would need, thankfully. The kitchen is galley style and small. Also very inadequately stocked. I emailed management about a few maintenance concerns and they were very quick to respond, friendly and helpful. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay."

"Our family of 12 stayed at High Road Cabin for 8 nights over the Christmas Holidays. The home is everything it is advertised to be; the photos are accurate as is the listing of the amenities. It truly is a magical place. FEEDBACK ON CAROLINA CABIN RENTALS: We want to say first and foremost how excellent the customer service was by all the staff at Carolina Cabin Rentals. From the time we booked the cabin, the email communications were timely, thorough and informative. Throughout our stay we had a few phone conversations with the staff and they answered all our questions with kindness, patience and professionalism. We felt very looked after and they truly demonstrated superb customer service. We will definitely rent from CCR again. We had some issues with the fireplaces - the instructions indicated that the pilot lights would be on when we arrived, however they weren't and it was a bit tricky for us to figure it out. They immediately sent someone out, in the snow and ice, to get both fireplaces running, and showed us how to operate both. This was very much appreciated. We also experienced some confusion with construction work being done on the driveway. CCR informed us upon our arrival that there was a chance that construction workers might show up some time during our stay, and if so, CCR would remedy the inconvenience with a refund. They were trying to communicate with the owner to encourage the work to be done when the cabin was not occupied with vacation renters. Sure enough, on Dec. 26 at 9am we heard the tractor/trucks doing work outside. Unfortunately the noise interrupted the peaceful environment, which was frustrating during our mountain getaway vacation which was meant to take us away from those types of disturbances. I called CCR to inform them the workers were on site doing the work. Again, CCR was very apologetic and kind and assured us they would continue to work with the owner to find an amenable solution. On the day of our arrival, it snowed and created a winter wonderland. Our 5 kids had been using the driveway and some of the slopes near the house to sled. It was very disappointing to wake up Dec. 26 and find both areas had been torn up by the tractors, with debris now where they had been sledding. So, they were not able to sled anymore during the stay. The workers came again on the morning of our departure. We had 3 vehicles in the driveway and therefore the tractor could not do much work. We assured him we would be checking out on time by 11am, but it was clear that his work had to be halted until we left, so that we could load our cars and complete our check out steps appropriately. He was kind and patient, but I'm sure it was frustrating for him to have to wait. I am waiting now to hear from CCR about a potential partial refund appropriate for the inconvenience we experienced. They have been great and I'm confident this will be resolved. FEEDBACK ON THE CABIN: What a truly remarkable site. The views are spectacular. We spent a lot of time on the upper level porch admiring the views. The hot tub is fabulous, overlooking the mountainside. The outdoor fire pit is really great as well! They provided a starter wood bunch but you will need to bring more if you are going to burn more than one night. The cabin is advertised as sleeping 12. This is accurate. However, the bunk bed room in the downstairs den is said to sleep 6; this is probably only for smaller kids. There are two bunks, each with a top bunk that has a twin mattress, and the bottom that has a full mattress. The full mattress is indicated to sleep 2 people, but we found that for our teenagers this was too tight. We put our 10 yr. old and 8 yr. old in the top bunks, and our 13 yr. old and 15 yr. old in the bottom bunks. There was no way the bottom bunks would really sleep two teenagers or adults comfortably. So, we put our 18 year old in the pull out couch upstairs. The pull out couch is actually not advertised; but we are glad it was there! We used it for the entire stay. The other 3 bedrooms are cozy and warm. The beds are very comfortable with down comforters on each. There were enough extra pillows and blankets provided. The downstairs den is a great place for kids/teenagers to hang out and be noisy - there's a tv, pool table, dart board, checkers/chess table, and a video game tv with Wii. Our kids were so happy to have their 'own' hangout area, so that we the adults could be cozy and quiet in the upstairs living room. The 3 bathrooms are fine with everything you need. The towels are very fluffy, and there are starter soaps, shampoo and toilet paper. You will definitely need to bring more if you are there for more than a couple of days. The kitchen has the basic items; we did bring some additional baking dishes for some particular recipes we were making. We did all our grocery shopping in Banner Elk, so it was very convenient. We bought extra trash bags and definitely used them. The only downside to this cabin is the driveway work that was being done. We could tell it was a work in progress because upon arrival the driveway and entrance up toward the house was filled with gravel and dirt - like any construction site is. Not very appealing, but we could also see that this is necessary work being done to complete important property repairs. Certain sections were blocked off due to safety issues, which we appreciated since we had kids with us. The snow cover made it difficult to discern where we could step safely, so the markers helped. I'm sure once this work is done, things will be fabulous again. Other than that, this cabin is really stunning and perfectly suited our needs. It is truly remarkable and we made some great memories there. Do note that the roads leading to the cabin are steep, winding and have some hairpin turns that can be a bit tense for those unused to driving in the mountains. In winter you will definitely need 4WD or AWD to make it up Hickory Nut Gap and Meadow Avenue. Two of our vehicles were 4WD so they were fine. The other was front wheel drive, so we had to put chains on that vehicle or we would have never made it up the mountain, given the snow we had while there. Many thanks to CCR for making our stay even more wonderful!"
