A rugged trail with a terrain that is quite a challenge for hikers. The trail got its name from a former church located in these parts. The one-mile long trail stretches from an area behind the lake and goes half the distance to the campground. During its course it curves along the hillside above Kooser State Park.
A short trail which is just half a mile in length, the Tree Army Trail curves along Kooser Run. It gets its name from the Civilian Conservation Corps who used to be called Roosevelt’s Tree Army. The trail is good for getting access to stream fishing and it also allows you to enjoy the spectacular scenery during winter, especially if you enjoy snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. The trail stretches from the dam located at Kooser Lake’s far end to the camping area.
Located in Kooser State Park is the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. The trail, which stretches for 70 miles, passes through several state forests. It is a part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.

Kooser is a popular place for going cross-country skiing during winter. The heavy snowfall and elevation of the park make an ideal combination, creating prime conditions to ski cross-country.
Kooser Lake is ideal to take your children fishing for the first time, as it is teeming with bass, bluegill, and trout. There is a peninsula on the southeastern side of the lake, which is a good spot for fishing. Fishing, however, is allowed only from the shore and you cannot use boats.
Nothing spells as much fun for families, and the Mighty Oak Picnic Pavilion and numerous picnic tables at Kooser State Park make it an ideal spot to enjoy a picnic as a family.
