One of North Carolina's largest cities, Charlotte is less than an hour from the campus at Wingate. Wingate itself is a quiet community, with a farmer's market and leafy surroundings. Its activities are generally focused around the university which benefits from an idyllic setting not far from the big city.
From Charlotte Douglas International Airport, it's a 50-minute car trip to the campus along I-485. The cities of Fayetteville and Raleigh are can be reached in around two hours by car.
Wingate University offers campus visits, where you can talk to staff and existing students about your future studies and extracurricular activities. This is also a great opportunity to tour the beautiful grounds and get a feel for the college experience.
Wingate itself is small but nearby Monroe has a historic downtown area with stores, restaurants and cafés which embody authentic Southern culture. The Union County Farmer's Market is held several times a week nearby.
At less than an hour's drive away, Charlotte makes for an ideal day trip destination and is a frequent stopping point for Wingate's students. Visit the Levine Museum of the New South and the African American Cultural Center in the uptown neighborhood to better understand the area. Charlotte's NFL team, the Carolina Panthers, play at the Bank of America Stadium.
