Meander through a forest of spruce and hardwood trees and get a glimpse of the spectacular mountain peaks and swinging bridge. Hike on and find yourself atop MacRae Peak or Attic Window Peak enjoying the serenity of the countryside below.
The pink and purple sea of rhododendrons and blueberries is particularly lovely on this trail, as are the impressive views of Boone Bowl and Storyteller's Rock, but only after a steep and strenuous climb to the top of the trail. It may be hard going, but you'll soon be reliving the experience back at your Grandfather Mountain State Park cabins.
This 3-mile trail ascends to the top of Calloway Peak, which at 5,946 feet is the highest point in the Blue Ridge Mountains. You'll need ladders and cables to reach the top of this difficult climb. The phenomenal views reward a can-do spirit.
