Taughannock Falls State Park hotels are close to more than five miles of tracks to enjoy on foot. The trails offer breathtaking, up-close lookouts over the cascades, and vary between easy and moderate. Try one or both of the Rim Trails for a more remote hiking experience.
The main track in Taughannock Falls State Park is an easy 0.75mi. walk which can be enjoyed by all members of the family. There is a viewpoint of the falls at its base and it has interpretative panels along the way.
This 1.2mi. hike is considered moderate due to the precipitous staircases at the beginning. However, the rest of the trail is without any major accents and you will be spoiled with a stunning panorama of the gorge and the waterfalls.
This modest 1.5mi. trail offers striking vistas when crossing the upper gorge on an old railroad bridge and then travels by several viewpoints of the main falls. At the western end of the trail, you can cross over and return on the South Rim Trail.

The Finger Lakes Environmental Education Department hosts informative gorge explorations and educational programs at the Buttermilk Falls. All activities are free, don't require a reservation beforehand and cater to kids as well as the whole family.
The lake is perfect for spending time on the water. During the summer, rent a single or tandem kayak at the marina and paddle around in the lake, or just enjoy one of the swimming beaches. If you want a more comfortable day out on the water, you can rent a boat with enough space for the entire family.
