Best Hikes in Chenango Valley State Park

There are numerous paths within the state park amounting to a total of 15 miles of trails. All the trails are less than two miles in length so you can try multiple trails during your stay. You can choose between a walk through the bog, a nature trail, or across a glacier ridge. Stay a few nights in one of the Chenango Valley State Park cabins and experience all the trails.

  • 1. Lily Lake Loop

    This easy loop hike is 1.8-miles in length. The trail is very popular and is well signposted so you can find your way without a problem. You will see spectacular views of Lily Lake from this level trail that will take you about three hours to complete.

  • 2. Chenango Lake Loop

    A level, two-mile hike that is the longest in the park. There are a few steep sections but these provide awesome views of Chenango Lake. In the summer take a swim suit and swim at a few of the beaches that you pass.

  • 3. The Edge Trail

    This wheelchair accessible trail is just under a mile in length and provides wonderful opportunities for birding along the way in the surrounding bog. The trail can be completed in less than in an hour but it's better if you take your time and enjoy the scenery.

    There are a few sections of both lakes that are designated fishing areas away from the swimming beaches. You can fish for smallmouth and trout, both species are re-stocked on a regular basis.
