There's so much to do in town, so when you're visiting the university you'll have plenty to keep you occupied. Walk around the French Quarter and admire its colonial architecture, head to the National WWII Museum, and take a cruise along the Mississippi River.

Visit around early March for one of the world's most famous festivals, full of music, vibrant color, and amazing floats and costumes. You can also soak up the spirit of the festival by visiting Mardi Gras World.
If you have the chance to get out of town, drive towards Baton Rouge, with amazing views of Lake Pontchartrain and gorgeous old plantation houses to visit along the way. You can take official tours.
