From Memphis International Airport, it's just a 15-minute drive to East Memphis and the college campus via the I-240. Head downtown, where you can ride the trolley to the most interesting areas.
Visitors flock to the city to experience its unique music culture. Beale Street, an excellent place to start, features several superb venues. Also, be sure to check out the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum, which is partnered with the Smithsonian.
Many of Memphis's highlights are close to the college campus, meaning you won't have to travel far to soak up its culture. The Pink Palace is a kind of "curiosities" museum that counts a shrunken head and preserved polar bear among its exhibits, while the Memphis Botanic Garden and Lichterman Nature Center are two green oases within the city.
