1. Getting to the University of Kentucky
Blue Grass Airport has domestic flight connections, and is a mere 10-minute drive from the downtown area. Louisville and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky, the nearest international airports, are both are about 90 minutes' drive from town. The college is a short walk from the city center, on University Drive.
2. Bluegrass culture
Get to know Lexington's vibrant music bars. Main Street is an obvious place to start, with wonderful Stagger Inn being a popular choice with students. Bluegrass Tavern on Cheapside Street is a bourbon aficionado's haven.
3. History in Lexington
See the Greek-style Joseph Bryan House, built in the mid-19th century, or the Kentucky Theater, which dates from the 1920s and offers a classic movie experience. The Distillery District is the ideal place to learn more about the region's bourbon industry, and of course, taste some of the product.

Head to Fayette Mall for all your buying needs – it's the largest in Kentucky. Meanwhile, the Square offers a more intimate experience, with a mixture of smaller boutiques and familiar brands. Lexington Farmers' Market runs every Saturday morning from 8AM to 1PM.
