The closest international gateway is Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport. From there, it's just a 20-minute drive to the campus, passing along I-20. Jackson is also a short distance from the Arkansas and Louisiana state borders. Shreveport is a three-hour drive away.
The Greater Belhaven district is a wonderful location for Millsaps College students. With plenty of bars, cafés, independent book stores and more, you could spend many an hour strolling along North State Street. You can arrange tours of the Medgar Evers House, where the eponymous civil rights activist lived. The Old State Capitol and New State Capitol are prime examples of Jackson's attractive architectural offerings.
Jackson's nightlife is both authentic and exciting. State Street and the surrounding areas are a hub of bars and music venues, with a range of performances including rock and bluegrass. This is proper southern entertainment at its best. Greater Belhaven is an ideal destination for dining too. Blue crab served with a choice of dressings is one of Mississippi's tastiest offerings. Biscuits and gravy and fried chicken are great examples of "soul food" you can try in Jackson's restaurants.
