There are a number of regional airports serving the city, the main one being Gettysburg. The nearest international airport is Harrisburg, which is a 50-minute drive from Gettysburg travelling on the I-81 and I-83.
This monumental event in US history comes to life in Gettysburg. Visit the Gettysburg Heritage Center and you'll find a range of exhibits that recreate the famous battle. The Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center features its own Civil War Museum with videos and a curved painting of the battlefield that's 377 feet wide.
There are a number of independent cafés around town, especially Chambersburg Street, also perfect for shopping. The Gateway Theater and Gettysburg Majestic Theater offer live performances and cinema screenings day and night.
If you have your own transport, be sure to drive around the surrounding countryside, which is a sobering experience across the land where such a bloody battle took place. However, the Blue Ridge Mountains loom scenically over the peach and apple orchards dotting the landscape.
