Fredericksburg is just an hour's drive from Washington DC and Richmond, Virginia. DC is served by Washington Dulles International, Ronald Reagan Washington National, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall, while Richmond International is central Virginia's busiest airport. Take public transportation from any of these hubs to reach the campus – Amtrak and the Fredericksburg Regional Transit bus system (FRED) offer reliable services.
Fredericksburg played an important role in colonial and Civil War history. Visit the Fredericksburg Historic District, which comprises over 40 city blocks and 350 buildings dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Civil War battles are commemorated at Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park, while fallen Union soldiers are buried at Fredericksburg National Cemetery.
Nature enthusiasts will want to head to the 3.1-mile Rappahannock River Heritage Trail for walking or hiking. For kayaking, canoeing, or rock climbing, contact the Virginia Outdoor Center. Alum Spring Park, a wonderful place for a family day out, has playgrounds, hiking trails, and swimming holes to cool off at in summer.
