There are over 20 miles of trails at Lake Louisa State Park, with a shorter nature trail. Trail maps are available online so browse from the comfort of one of the many hotels near Lake Louisa State Park, or just pick up a paper copy on arrival. Trails are clearly marked along the way by colored wooden post markers.
The Park's longest trail at 5.5 miles, this trail takes in the western part of the Park, around the small Bear Lake. Pass through various woodland and water habitats and keep an eye open for gators in the water.
The main benefit to taking the trail around Lake Dixie is that the route is mainly paved making it perfect for cycling or kids in strollers. Along the route you will pass some of the Lake Louisa State Park cabins which can be rented for longer stays. There are various piers overlooking the lake but don't be tempted to swim as the water is home to many alligators.
Leave the car at the campground close to the Lake Louisa State Park cabins and head south, towards the smaller Smokehouse Lake. The ground is even and in this area of the park you can spot deer, raccoons and squirrels.
Kids will love the wide open spaces of Lake Louisa State Park and there's plenty for them to see and do. Whether you are camping in the park or just on a day visit, there is a huge range of outdoors activities to enjoy.
There is a safe, gator-free swimming spot in Lake Louisa, perfect for cooling off after a busy day walking the trails. The temperate Florida climate allows for year-round dips in the water.
There are geocaches hidden around the Park, so power up your phone's GPS and get hunting! Pick up a tracking sheet from any Ranger Station and if you can find over 20 across all Florida State Parks you will win a special geocoin.
Fishing from shore or boats is permitted in much of Lake Louisa State Park's waters. There is a wide range of fish in the waters and you can collect a fishing information pack and get advice on the best places to catch dinner from the park rangers.
