Best Hiking Trails in Letchworth State Park
Many of the park's most impressive sights can only be reached by foot, and there are over 20 numbered hiking trails covering over 60 miles and designed to suit all abilities. Take a hike through the Genesee River gorge and retire one of several nearby comfortable Letchworth State Park hotels at the end of the day to relax.

1. Portage Trail
Also known as trail #6, this easy route is under a mile in length and follows the edge of the gorge, offering some spectacular views as you progress up or down the trail.

Hiking trail #13 takes you to the site of the former village of St. Helena, a bustling community in the 1800s which was abandoned in the 1950s.

3. Gorge Trail
At over seven miles in length, the Gorge Trail or trail #1 is not for the faint hearted, but it is still a relatively easy route, following the main road through the park for much of its length. This trail includes Inspiration Point, one of Letchworth State Park's most popular attractions.

Serious hikers may want to take on the 24-mile Letchworth Trail, which follows the eastern edge of the gorge. It can be done in one day, or you can take your time and stay overnight in one of the many Letchworth State Park cabins.
