Best Hiking Routes in Holland State Park
Visitors staying in Holland State Park hotels can easily explore the shoreline of both Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa on foot, thanks to the excellent hiking trails in this area of Michigan.

1. Lake Macatawa Loop
A hiking trail which circles the whole of Lake Macatawa, this option is around 12mi. in total. It may be too long a hike for many visitors, but the path is relatively easy, and you can always just walk a short distance and turn back if you don't want to take on the whole loop.

2. Lake Michigan State Water Trail
This is a huge network of paths which follow the shoreline of Lake Michigan for over 500mi. The route does pass close to the park, allowing you to explore the shoreline of Lake Michigan both north and south of Holland State Park cabins.

3. Mt. Pisgah Dune Boardwalk
A set of steps and boardwalks have been built on the impressive sand dunes in Holland State Park, to help visitors climb to the top and enjoy the views across both Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa.

4. Black Lake Boardwalk
This is another recently-built boardwalk which takes visitors from Holland Harbor Lighthouse on Lake Michigan, around Macatawa Bay to the small town of Ottawa.

There are several swimming beaches in this area, on both Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa. Some Holland State Park cabins are only a few minutes away on foot from great swimming spots.

Rent kayaks and canoes to explore some of the creeks and coves on Lake Macatawa. Local businesses also offer motor boat rentals, if you want to try your hand at fishing.

Explore further afield by renting a bicycle or bringing your own. Many of the area's hiking trails are suitable for bicycles, allowing visitors to see much more of this beautiful stretch of Lake Michigan.
