Best Hiking Trails at Diamond Head
Staying at Diamond Head hotels and hiking in this part of O'ahu is a unique experience. Not only do you get to enjoy panormaic views at the top of the 760 ft volcanic cone but the trail also takes you through the volcanic crater itself.

1. Diamond Head Hike
The main trail at Diamond Head is the short path which takes you through the crater and up to the top of volcanic cone itself, where you can enjoy spectacular views across Honolulu. The trail is only 1.6 miles there and back but it can be quite steep and the surface underfoot can be quite rough and rocky in places.

2. Diamond Head Beach Park
Head down to the Pacific Ocean shoreline and spend some time exploring the Diamond State Beach Park, with its scenic lookout points close to the Diamond Head lighthouse.

3. Kuilei Cliffs
The 11-acre Kuilei Cliffs Beach Park is located just to the east of Diamond Head Beach Park and is accessible via a short trail from the Diamond Head Lookouts car park.

While the Diamond Head hike itself may be too difficult for young children, older kids will be thrilled at the chance to walk through a volcanic crater. Just remember to take plenty of water and sunscreen as there is very little shade on the trail. The hike along the cliffs is much less demanding, while the lookout points - including one dedicated to Amelia Earhart - still offer fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean.

The beach at Kuilei Cliffs is ideal for surfing, and you can hire equipment at various places around the island. Look out for the seals which can often be seen basking here but make sure you don't disturb their sleep!

Diamond Head Beach Park is a popular choice if you want to get away from the busier beaches in the more popular parts of O'ahu. Cromwell's Cove is a lovely sandy beach, where you can enjoy a peaceful dip in the Pacific.
