Charlotte Douglas International Airport is very close by – just 15 minutes by car driving along I-85. From there, you're only 10 minutes away from Uptown Charlotte and the range of entertainment and cultural venues it has to offer.
The Carolinas Aviation Museum is located at the airport itself. Here, plane enthusiasts gather to marvel at the range of historic aircraft on show. The Levine Museum of the New South offers a superb introduction to real southern culture. Discovery Place educates on the natural world.
The Bojangles' Coliseum frequently puts on musical shows by local artists and those from further afield, and has seen the likes of Jimi Hendrix play. These days, the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater is for larger concerts.
Uptown is ideal for clubs and buzzing bars, although NoDA is a historic mill district with a range of more intimate restaurants and drinking holes. The city also has an impressive array of theaters, so it's well worth seeing what's on. The Actor's Theatre of Charlotte and UNC Charlotte Theatre and Dance are two popular examples.
