Best Hikes in Mount Magazine State Park

There are nine hiking trails in Mount Magazine State Park and they vary greatly in difficulty and length, so there are routes for everyone to enjoy depending on their level of experience. Each hike offers its own distinctive journey along alternating views of the rocky landscape.

  • 1. Cove Lake Trail

    This is the longest hiking-only trail in the park at 9.7mi. and with some steep sections, it's considered a moderate hike. The trail can be completed in five hours but overnight camping is recommended so that you can enjoy the route at a slower pace. Treat yourself to a stay in one of the Mount Magazine State Park hotels after a day of hiking.

  • 2. Bear Hollow Trail

    This particular trail provides some of the best scenery in the park with several waterfalls and some small creek crossings along the hike. This can be done as a 2.8mi. one-way hike using a shuttle bus or as an extended 7.5mi. loop for the more experienced hikers.

  • 3. Mossback Ridge Trails

    A very steep hike marks the start of this trail but most of the journey is along the flat ridge. The trail is just over two miles long and can be completed in about two hours. There are some stunning wildflowers along this route and black bears are often seen.
