Dona Ana Beach
One of the Ponta da Piedade's most beautiful beaches, Dona Ana has incredible rock formations that are home to many mussels. There is also a small restaurant on the beach, which sells traditional local fare and great cocktails. The beach backs onto a promenade with unparalleled views of the ocean, making it a popular spot for sunbathing.
A steep incline down the cliff edge reveals this hidden gem of a beach, where the water is crystal clear and shallow, with fine sand underfoot. At high tide, there is very little beach, but fantastic photo opportunities from the cliffs that make this a winner at any time of day. Kayaking around the perimeter of the bay is one of the best ways to explore its fascinating rock formations.
Praia da Rocha
One of the Algarve's largest and most beautiful sandy beaches, Praia da Rocha shares the coastline with a lively promenade and yacht marina, both fascinating places buzzing with life. The restaurants and bars that encircle the marina offer all the refreshments you could desire, and a tranquil fishing village with bright white houses and a village church visible from the beach lies on the other side of the bay. Nearby, you’ll find Praia Grande, a stunning beach at the foot of the Castle of Arade, where the sounds of children engaged in various watersports resound.
Forte da Ponta da Bandeira
This well-preserved magisterial seventeenth-century fortress was one of the last bastions of the town of Lagos. It features a chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara, patron saint of sailors, and today hosts art exhibitions and a traditional community festival in August.
Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar
These incredible stone edifices, with unusual slit-like doorways, look distinctly foreign. They date back to the Chalcolithic period, or the Copper Age, and are certainly worth experiencing.
